Practicing from the Head or from the Heart

Practicing from the head is when we try to do the practice.
We remember the sequence, think about the next pose, measure progress, compare, push, analyze.

The mind is busy.

But practicing from the heart feels different.
You are not only doing the asana — you are feeling your way through it.

You listen.
You notice small sensations.
You feel the breath moving through the body.
You sense when to soften, when to stay, and when to try again tomorrow.

The difference between forcing and allowing.
The difference between ambition and curiosity.
The difference between performing and experiencing.

Ashtanga is not only a sequence of poses.
It is a conversation with yourself.

And that conversation becomes richer
when the practice moves
from the head… into the heart.

Self practice

Study day

Self practice is the real teacher.

In the beginning we chase progress.
The next asana, a deeper backbend, a stronger arm balance.

But after some years, the practice slowly reveals something else.

The real work is not passing the posture.
The real work is seeing yourself clearly.

Sometimes wisdom in practice means pushing forward.
Sometimes it means stepping back.
Sometimes it means pausing and listening.

A study day can be as valuable as a strong practice day.

Fifteen years later, self practice is still my favorite way to practice.
But now I practice with less ego, more purpose, and more joy.

Because yoga was never about the pose.
It was always about coming home.

“The world may be moving with aggression and uncertainty, but yoga begins with Yama—how we live with others.
Every time we practice with awareness instead of force, patience instead of ambition, we cultivate the peace the world is searching for.”

In that way, practice becomes a quiet form of resistance to chaos.

In a Mysore room, progress is never a competition.
One student learns, another inspires.
Different timelines, same devotion to the practice.

Thank you 🙏🏻

Lion Cub is one of the most therapeutic and structurally intelligent sequences in Vinyasa Krama — when understood properly.

This 4-week immersion is for experienced practitioners who want to refine their practice beyond performance.

If you:

• Feel recurring tightness or imbalance
• Have mild injuries you want to address intelligently
• Know the sequence but lack deeper context
• Want a more sustainable and honest practice

This study is for you.

Each week we look deeper into the architecture of the body.

Week 1 — Asymmetry
Week 2 — Compensation
Week 3 — Compression
Week 4 — Personal prescription

Through standing alignment, strength architecture, supported backbending, and intelligent inversions, we begin to understand our structural habits.

Let’s study ourselves through Lion Cub.

Small group.

Recording available for Zoom sessions.

DM or message to register.

March 2026 Schedule
🌿 regular Mysore shala / zoom on Tuesday , Thursday , Sunday
🌿Led class and workshop on Saturday

Stepping Stones into Simha Krama (Lion Sequence)
Before strength, there is listening.

Lion Cub is the entry point of the Lion family—a therapeutic, inquiry-based practice that refines body awareness before intensity arises.

Rather than asking how far or how strong, we ask:
Where is my attention needed first?

With slower pacing, clear alignment, and the use of props and the wall, the body receives reference points—what’s neutral, what’s compensating, and where effort replaces listening.

From here, Simha Krama (Level 1–1.5) unfolds:
- Strong, grounded legs
- Open hips & shoulders
- Spacious, free spine

Power guided by awareness.
Strength that listens.

🌿Where Strength Becomes Grace
Time : Saturday 28 Feb 8-9.30am
Venue : Ashtanga Samasthiti
Teacher : Vimala

In this workshop, we will explore jump throughs and jump backs by breaking these dynamic transitions into clear, manageable steps.

Together, we’ll look at the strength, technique, and alignment that support these movements — unpacking the mechanics behind them and learning how to build them progressively and sustainably.

Through shared experience and practical drills, we’ll explore helpful modifications that make these transitions more accessible, efficient, and light. Rather than forcing the movement, we’ll cultivate understanding — allowing the body to organize itself with greater intelligence and ease.

Whether you are new to jump throughs and jump backs or refining your approach, you’ll gain deeper insight and concrete tools to support a more integrated and confident practice.

Lion Cub – Led Class | This Saturday 21 February 8-9.30am

A gentle reminder of how intelligent your body can be — when you truly listen.

This Saturday we return to Lion Cub (Marjara Krama), a sequence that reveals what needs attention. Not to judge. Not to fix aggressively. But to become aware.

We will focus on the essential work of the side body —
✨ releasing what is tight
✨ strengthening what is weak
✨ aligning what feels unclear

When awareness is present, imbalances highlight themselves.

This is a foundational, therapeutic practice — steady, precise, and deeply balancing.

Come refine.
Come observe.
Come realign.

There is doubt about deep backbending.
Is it necessary? Is it good for the spine?

The answer is both yes and no.
It depends on how we approach it.

Depth alone does not define benefit. Distribution does.

When the legs are active, the pelvis lifts and the spine can move more freely, with less compression in the lower back. Stability below creates space above.

Shoulder opening is also essential. Catching the ankles should not come from pulling with the arms, but from integrated shoulder blades that support the joint and protect it.

A backbend is not about forcing flexibility.
It is about intelligent participation of the whole body.

When approached with awareness, it becomes spacious.
When approached with ambition, it becomes compressive.

The pose is not the goal.
The relationship with the spine is.

Learn to pause—and to carry that steady, smooth frequency into your life.

In practice, the most precious moments are in between,
where you are not really doing.

The pause.

It’s always there, if you notice:
between the breath,
between asana,
between movement.

And most importantly—
before rushing into rest at the end of practice,
give yourself time to unwind all stimulation,
to let the nervous system settle,
and to arrive in a quietness within.

That space…
is where practice truly lands. 🌿
