Thai cabinet approves 45 days for visa exemptions and 30 days for Visa on Arrival

The Cabinet approved an edict of the Ministry of Interior on 20 September 2022 extending the stay period in the Kingdom for some foreign visitors, as follows:
- Visitors with Visa on Arrival will be able to stay for up to 30 days, up from 15 days;
- Passport holders of countries/ territories who may enter Thailand under a tourist visa exemption scheme will be extended from 30 days to 45 days;
- Passport holders of countries/ territories who may enter Thailand without a visa under a bilateral agreement will be allowed to stay in the Kingdom for up to 45 days, up from 30 days.

The extension is temporarily in effect from 1 October to 31 March 2023.

The approved extended visas are expected to boost tourist arrivals and spending in the country in order to help revive the tourism sector after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thailand Pass
• The CCSA agreed to discontinue/lift Thailand Pass registration for all travellers, both Thais and foreigners. This is welcome news and we do hope it will promote tourism, facilitate international arrivals and bring us closer to normalcy.
• The current USD 10,000 insurance requirements for COVID treatment for foreign travellers will no longer be mandatory but is highly recommended.
• Travellers still need to show proof of either a vaccine certificate OR COVID-Free test results. Vaccine certificate or Pro-ATK/RT-PCR results (within 72 hours) will be checked by airline staff at check-in and once again when travellers arrive in Thailand.
• Please note that this new Thailand Pass measure will be effective from 1 July onwards.

The Division of Tuberculosis, Ministry of Public Health, has opened a COVID-19 testing service from Monday to Friday, 09.00-11.30 hr, except public holidays.

The testing is available in two methods: (1) Real-Time RT-PCR with laboratory report, 500 baht. The service starts from 1 May onward; (2) ATK with laboratory report, 100 baht. The service is available until 31 May 2022.

The service takes place at the Division of Tuberculosis, Daranon Building, first floor. It is limited to 150 persons per day.

มาตรการเดินทางเข้าประเทศไทยทางอากาศ ตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 พ.ค. 65 เป็นต้นไป มีดังนี้

🔴 กลุ่ม 1 - ผู้ได้รับวัคซีนครบตามข้อกำหนด

- ลงทะเบียนในระบบ Thailand Pass

- แนบเอกสารประกอบ ได้แก่ หนังสือเดินทาง เอกสารรับรองการได้รับวัคซีน หลักฐานการมีประกันที่ครอบคลุมการรักษาพยาบาลในไทย วงเงินขั้นต่ำ 10,000 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐ (สำหรับชาวต่างชาติ) และวีซ่า (หากจำเป็น)

- Register on Thailand Pass

- Attach required documents including passport, certificate of vaccination

- Attach proof of insurance with at least 10,000 USD coverage for medical treatments in Thailand (for non-Thais only)

- Thai Visa (if required)

(COVID-19 test, both prior to and after arriving in Thailand, is no longer required)

🔴 2. Unvaccinated Persons

🔸 (Option 1 - Exemption from quarantine) Travelers with a negative RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours before traveling must :

- Register on Thailand Pass

- Attach required documents including passport, and COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours before traveling (must attach on Thailand Pass only)

- Attach proof of insurance with at least 10,000 USD coverage for medical treatments in Thailand (for non-Thais only)

- Thai Visa (if required)

(Any COVID-19 test after arriving in Thailand is not required)

PLEASE NOTE Travelers who have been approved to enter Thailand under AQ scheme but wish to enter Thailand under exemption from quarantine must re-apply on Thailand Pass.

🔸(Option 2 - Quarantine) Travelers who cannot undergo an RT-PCR test result within 72 hours before traveling or wish to be quarantined must :

- Register on Thailand Pass

- Attach required documents including passport, Alternative Quarantine (AQ) hotel confirmation for 5 days (including 1 RT-PCR test)

- Attach proof of insurance with at least 10,000 USD coverage for medical treatments in Thailand (for non-Thais only)

- Thai Visa (if required)

* undergo an RT-PCR test on Day 4 - 5 in Thailand during the mandatory 5-day quarantine at AQ hotel

PLEASE NOTE Travelers whose Thailand Pass have already been issued can travel with the issued QR Code and do not need to register for new Thailand Pass.

Starting on 1 May 2022, Thailand will scrap its Test & Go travel scheme for foreign arrivals by air, while the minimum COVID-19 insurance coverage for them will be reduced from US$20,000 to $10,000.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), chaired by Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

According to the decision, fully vaccinated travelers will not be tested for COVID-19 upon their arrival in Thailand anymore. It is recommended that they self-test using antigen kits (ATK) during their stay. If they test positive, they should enter their COVID-19 insurance process or take care of their own treatment. However, they must register for entry via the Thailand Pass system.

As for unvaccinated travelers, they must also register for entry via the Thailand Pass system. They are requested to show their negative RT-PCR test not more than 72 hours before their arrival, or they will be quarantined in accordance with the alternative quarantine (AQ) system, with another RT-PCR test on day 4 or 5. They are also advised to do self-antigen testing during their stay. If they test positive, they should enter their COVID-19 insurance process or take care of their own treatment.

Also starting from 1 May 2022, the CCSA has reclassified a number of provinces under its color-coded scale, designating 65 provinces high-surveillance, or "yellow zones.” The remaining 12 provinces, which will be designated tourism-oriented, or "blue zones,” include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phetchaburi, Krabi, Nonthaburi, Phuket, Kanchanaburi, Pathum Thani, Rayong, Chon Buri, Phang-nga, and Songkhla.

In both zones, the serving of alcoholic beverages at restaurants will be extended from 11 pm to midnight. However, these venues must receive SHA Plus or Thai Stop COVID 2 Plus certificates, or implement COVID-Free Setting measures.

Night entertainment venues must remain closed, but they are allowed to operate as restaurants, in accordance with the established measures.
