วันปิยมหาราช

๒๓ ตุลาคม พุทธศักราช ๒๕๖๔ เป็นวันคล้ายวันสวรรคตพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๕

พระองค์เป็นพระราชโอรสในพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๔ ที่ประสูติแต่สมเด็จพระเทพศิรินทราบรมราชินี เสด็จพระราชสมภพเมื่อวันอังคารที่ ๒๐ กันยายน ๒๓๙๖ และเสวยราชสมบัติเมื่อวันพฤหัสบดีที่ ๑ ตุลาคม ๒๔๑๑ เสด็จสวรรคต เมื่อวันอาทิตย์ที่ ๒๓ ตุลาคม ๒๔๕๓ ณ พระวิมาน พระที่นั่งอัมพรสถาน พระราชวังดุสิต สิริพระชนมพรรษา ๕๗ พรรษา ๓๓ วัน เสด็จดำรงสิริราชสมบัติ ๔๒ ปี ๒๒ วัน

วันปิยมหาราชตรงกับวันที่ ๒๓ ตุลาคม ของทุกปี เป็นวันคล้ายวันสวรรคต พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๕ เนื่องจากพระองค์ทรงเป็นที่รักใคร่อย่างล้นเหลือของพสกนิกรทั้งชาวไทย และชาวต่างประเทศ พระองค์จึงได้รับการถวายพระราชสมัญญานามว่า “สมเด็จพระปิยมหาราช” ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า “พระมหากษัตริย์ที่ทรงเป็นที่รักยิ่งของปวงชน” ด้วยความสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ รัฐบาลจึงได้ประกาศให้วันที่ ๒๓ ตุลาคม เป็น “วันปิยมหาราช”

ด้วยสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณล้นเกล้าล้นกระหม่อมปวงข้าพระพุทธเจ้าอย่างหาที่สุดมิได้
