Meow our lovely budtender is currently on holiday back in her hometown of Roi Et in Isan, celebrating the Bun Bang Fai rocket festival!
Traditionally this is one the rowdiest, unapologetically chaotic and fun festivals in Asia. 😁
Whilst the official reason for the festival is Buddhist merit making, asking the sky god Phaya Thaen for rain before the rice planting season, the actual ex*****on of the festival is that of fun, loud music, exhibitionism and partying! Oh and Lao Khao, plenty of Lao Khao! (Local homemade rice whiskey!)
Massive homemade rockets are launched into the sky, people are dunked into mud pits and there is a parade, with phalic objects everywhere!
There is also outrageous, raunchy street dancing, dirty folk songs with very rude lyrics and alot of cross dressing! 😆😅
The vibe is total fun, ridiculous and loud. The more raucous and mental, the more merit made for the village. This gives the locals all the encouragement they need to let go and enjoy themselves. Amazing! Only in Thailand! 😅😁
Here Meow is rocking a traditional outfit, whacky makeup and a necklace of phalusses! The wooden p***s necklace wards off evil spirits and brings good luck! 😅🥰
As those of you who know her will be aware, Meow doesn't usually look quite like this 😆😅
