Day 5 - Meditating with Pain and Discomfort.

Have you experienced any pain or discomfort while meditating over the past 5 days? I think 99% of us would answer yes.

This topic hits close to home for me. I Used to experience a lot of pain during my meditation and I still do. Sometimes within 5 minute of sitting for meditation I would begin to experience back tightness, muscle soreness, aching and other unpleasant sensations. I used to think that my body simply wasn’t built to sit up strait and be still.
So During meditation I would be constantly squirming and adjusting trying to get away from the discomfort, trying to find a position that was more comfortable and relieved some of the aching.
Its taken me a long time but I’ve finally been able to open up towards pain and discomfort in meditation and its been a pretty great experience so far.
Our attitude towards pain and discomfort plays a key role in how we perceive and react to our pain. The deep underlying habit that we have built over the course of our life has been to avoid pain and discomfort at all costs, push it away because its bad. This is called aversion to Pain and it makes our pain a lot worse than it actually is. In opening up to pain and discomfort during meditation we have a chance move past our ingrained ideas and habits towards pain and begin to recognize it as just another sensation in the body, neither good nor bad. Overtime we come to realize that its the fear and aversion we hold towards pain that makes it so unbearable for us.
This mediation will guide you through exploring you pain and discomfort
I hope you enjoy :)

Day 3 - Meditate with your Thoughts
One of the biggest challenges in meditation is how to deal with thoughts, so today that's exactly what we are going to look at.
Have you heard of the monkey mind? Its a phrase that associates the qualities of our mind with the actions and habits of a monkey, constantly jumping from tree to tree, from branch to branch, always in search of that next banana. Sometimes sitting in meditation is the very first time we will really notice just how powerful our monkey mind can be.
The bad news is that the mind is designed to think, and trying to stop it from thinking will make your mediation rigid, forceful and very uncomfortable.
The good news is that we can use our own thoughts in such a way to help guide us through our meditation, instead of trying to fight them off all the time.
This type of meditation reminds me specifically of the 5th day I was meditating at Wat Ram Poeng Temple in Chiang Mai years ago. It was a day when my monkey mind was at full strength. As I continuously tried to force my thoughts away and switch off my mind without any success, my agitation and frustration was growing to boiling point. I could feel the tensions multiplying inside me.
Distressed and exhausted after battling for hours, I Finally gave up, threw my arms up in the air and declared my monkey mind the winner and gave it permission to do whatever it wanted and go where ever it pleased.
All of a sudden things went quiet and I felt a wave of calmness wash over me. It was at that very moment of acceptance that the monkey mind settled. This was my very first insight into welcoming thoughts as they arise in meditation as opposed to fighting them with them.
This type of Meditation will requires a lot of patience, acceptance and self compassion.
I hope you enjoy

Day 2 - Meditate with your Body

DITCH YOUR PHONE BEFORE BED AND TRY THIS :)

Today we will be using he physical body as our object of Meditation. The physical body offers us a large and versatile object to focus on and explore. We could spend hours exploring all of the constantly changing sensations and feelings throughout the physical body that remain unnoticeable to the untrained mind, but for today we will keep it to 15 minutes :)
Meditating on the Physical body also allows us make the connection to areas of the body we may usually be completely unaware off, giving us a chance to notice where and when tension builds, and help us to let it go. Many yoga practices are designed to help us connect with the body in a similar way.
I hope you enjoy

The breath is the foundation of many meditation and mindfulness practices. It offers an object for the mind to focus on so that its not running around chasing its tail. One key benefit of the breath is that’s its always there, have a bad day? Your breath is there. Away from home? Your breathe is there. The breath is like your very own personal meditation partner that wants to meditate with you all the time!
On subtle levels the breathe has an unlimited number of complexities, but in this meditation we will utilize it in a simple and easy way
I hope you enjoy :)

Dear all practitioners - our updated class schedule from February onwards (until next notice) 🙃🙂🙏

Class description

Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa Yoga is a free flowing style of yoga. While each teacher will bring a slightly different style of vinyasa to the class, it generally means we will practice linking our breath with the movement of our body as we move through our yoga poses with seamless transition and conscious awareness. This practice is focused towards generating internal heat, energy and challenging ourselves physically and mentally.
In a Vinyasa class you can expect to challenge yourself with standing postures, balance poses and twists. You’ll be given options for backbends, inversions and core work and cooled down with hip openers, forward bends and supine postures. You’ll enjoy a luscious Savasana before heading out into the world relaxed and energized!
We offer both Vinyasa for beginners and Power Vinyasa for intermediate level.
----------

Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga is the mother of all yoga, all other styles of yoga stem from the traditional practice of Hatha Yoga. Hatha yoga is traditionally a set of physical poses and sequences designed to prepare the mind and body and nervous system for meditation. By practicing Hatha yoga we are slowly working with the physical body to allow seated meditation more comfortable, we are working with the mind to make mental stillness and clarity more attainable and we are working with the energetic channels of the body to remove blockages and allow energy to flow freely.
A Hatha Yoga class will include some type of breathing exercise (pranayama), a number of standing, sitting and lying postures and stretches and a short final meditation. You should end the class feeling longer, looser and more relaxed.
We provide both hatha yoga for beginners and classes for all levels.
----------

Evening Yoga Flow
Evening yoga flow classes are a mix of Vinyasa and hatha yoga. There will be periods of free flowing sequences where we connect our movement to our breath. We will be taking space and time to explore our bodies in the poses working towards enhancing our strength, flexibility, balance. There will also be periods of slowing down, releasing tension that has built up in the body throughout the day and calming the body and the mind preparing us for a nice restful and rejuvenating sleep.
----------

Yin Yoga
Do you sometimes feel like you just need to slow down, take some time out and reconnect? Yin Yoga is just what you’re looking for! Yin Yoga is passive, slow paced yoga practice with helps us to find mental, physical and energetic balance throughout our bodies and our lives. Yin Yoga is practiced with long, deep passive holds, we encourage to body to let go and surrender as opposed to other yoga classes where we are constantly pushing ourselves. The yin yoga approach is designed to help us create space in the yin tissues of the body; ligaments, joints and fascia while at the same time facilitating energetic healing.
Yin Yoga can be seen as the journey inwards. We work with the subtle sensations and energies throughout the body, while at the same time building a bridge between “Asana” and meditation. Yin Yoga can be perfect complement to yang styles of Yoga and the yang style of life. I weekly practice can help add balance to our Yoga practice and our hectic lives. Low lighting, relaxing music and awareness of breath will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!
-----------

Alignment-based Yoga:
Alignment-based yoga is a yoga class that focuses on detail, alignment and precision in asana (yoga poses)
Alignment yoga gives us the chance build up good habits in the functional positioning and movement of our body, it helps us to build awareness throughout new areas of our body that we may not have aware of before and it teaches us to practice yoga with great mindfulness and focus. As yoga in the western world continues to move towards becoming a form of exercise, these alignment classes are becoming more and more important. They give us the opportunity to slow down, to feel, to breathe, to observe and to take action.
-----------

Yin Yang Yoga
Yin Yang Yoga is dynamic class. We combine the energies of Yin and Yang as we move gently but actively into openness through the spine. With Yang energy we create space for the surrender and ease of yin to be felt throughout our entire body and being. This class is suitable for yogis of all levels who wants to flow more freely with breath, connect to the body and the senses, and move through the dynamics of activation and surrender.
