As yoga teachers, one of the most powerful lessons we can teach is detachment from the outcome.
Progress in yoga isn’t about achieving the ‘perfect’ pose it’s about connecting to one’s own body and honoring its needs.
Our role is to create a space where students feel empowered to explore, adapt, and choose what serves them best on any given day. Here’s how:
1️⃣ OPTIONS : During your class introduction, use the word “options” to describe the variations you’ll offer. This language is key it helps students understand that there is no “better” or “worse” expression of a pose. Every variation is valid, and the best choice is the one that feels good for their body that day.
2️⃣ CUE PROGRESSIVELY : Teach each pose step by step, offering variations before guiding students to the final expression. This allows them to stop where they feel stable, strong, and connected to their breath.
3️⃣ BREATH AWARENESS : Remind your students to check in with their breath and body sensations. If their breath becomes strained or they feel pain, that’s their cue to back off or adjust.
Progress doesn’t come from forcing the body into a shape; it comes from cultivating awareness, patience, and self-compassion.
Let’s empower our student by helping them to stay present and honor their unique needs.
