Facial Paralysis
Facial paralysis (Bell’s Palsy) causes weakness on one side of the face. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is often due to:
• Inflamed or blocked facial nerves, affecting communication between the brain and facial muscles
• Qi and blood stagnation, causing poor circulation and energy flow in the face
Triggers include stress, cold exposure, lack of rest, or infections.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Common signs include:
• Drooping on one side of the face, uneven smile
• Difficulty closing an eye or controlling the mouth
• Facial pain or numbness
• Excessive tearing or trouble controlling saliva
Diagnosis combines TCM assessment and modern medical evaluation, checking for nerve and blood flow issues.
Acupuncture and Recovery Approaches
Recovery focuses on restoring energy balance and stimulating facial muscles:
• The paralyzed facial muscles increased movement.
• The eye can be closed almost completely
• Facial numbness has decreased.
• Wrinkles on the forehead and along the cheeks have become more defined.
• Mouth deviation has reduced, with improved ability to puff out the cheeks.
• The sense of taste has improved
• Ringing in the ears has decreased.
Early and consistent treatment helps speed recovery, minimize long-term damage, and restore facial balance naturally.
