Deputy Minister of Transport Phattrapong Phattraprasit (ภัทรพงศ์ ภัทรประสิทธิ์) has ordered a thorough follow-up after a bomb threat caused a major delay for a Thai AirAsia flight at Krabi International Airport on April 26th.

The incident occurred at 4:47 p.m. on Sunday as an Airbus A320 bound for Suvarnabhumi Airport was pushing back from its parking bay. A passenger reportedly implied there was an explosive device in his carry-on luggage, prompting the pilot to return the aircraft to the gate. Although the passenger later admitted the comment was a joke, security protocols required all passengers and baggage to be offloaded for a full inspection.

The aircraft was moved to Bay 14, an isolated area designated for emergencies, so security teams could inspect the plane away from the main terminal. The Department of Airports confirmed that airport operations continued as normal, with other flights arriving and departing as scheduled.

By 8 p.m., security officials completed their search and found no explosives or suspicious items. The flight departed at 9 p.m., resulting in a delay of about 4 hours and 15 minutes. The individual responsible was taken into custody for prosecution.

Minister Phattrapong stressed the importance of aviation safety and warned that any statements causing public panic, regardless of intent, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Government Gazette website has released Bangkok City Hall’s latest report on its fiscal year 2025 revenue and expenses, which revealed that revenue exceeded expenses by more than 5 billion baht.

The notable surplus reportedly resulted from actual revenues collected exceeding the projected values as well as the value of budget disbursements being lower than the set target.

The report was released in accordance with a 1985 law governing administration practices by the BMA, which stipulates that Bangkok City Hall’s financial status must be reported to the public for the purpose of upholding transparency.

The BMA’s actual revenue in fiscal year 2025 amounted to 108 billion baht, exceeding the initial projection by 3.5 billion baht. Bangkok City Hall’s actual expenses in fiscal 2025 amounted to 87 billion baht and the amount set aside for ongoing projects and liabilities was 15.5 billion baht. Meanwhile, budget disbursements fell short of the initial projection by almost 1.9 billion baht. When these figures are taken together, the report showed the BMA achieved a surplus of roughly 5.39 billion baht in fiscal year 2025.

This year’s Bangkok gubernatorial election is scheduled for June 28th, with candidate registration to take place from May 28th to June 1st and several political parties set to unveil their running candidate this week. Nancy Wongsearaya Benjamin Rujopakarn

The Cannes Film Festival celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious with a star-studded red carpet led by Vin Diesel.

Diesel greeted fans gathered outside the screening venue, posing for selfies while wearing a black jacket featuring the words “Fast Forever,” the title of the franchise’s next sequel scheduled for release in 2028.

He was joined by co-stars Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, who appeared in the 2001 street-racing film that launched the long-running franchise for Universal Pictures. The series has since produced nine sequels and the spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, earning more than seven billion dollars worldwide.

Meanwhile, the late Paul Walker was represented at the event by his daughter, Meadow Walker, who previously appeared in Fast X.

Before the screening, Diesel praised Cannes festival director Thierry Fremaux for describing the original film as a classic. Diesel also confirmed that “Fast Forever” will feature returning cast members, including Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

In addition, Diesel announced earlier this week that television projects based on the franchise are currently in development.

To mark this special anniversary, here is a selection of our favorite Fast and Furious quotes:

"You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car!"
"It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning."
"I live my life a quarter-mile at a time. Nothing else matters... For those ten seconds or less, I'm free."
"Money will come and go. We all know that. The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room. Right here, right now. Salute, mi familia."
"I don't have friends, I got family."
