Dental implants are a medical procedure to permanently replace missing teeth. The main steps are as follows:
👉 1. Diagnosis and treatment planning: This involves an oral examination and X-rays (or CT scans) to assess the condition of the jawbone and bone density.
👉 2. Surgical implant placement: Local anesthesia is administered at the implant site. Then, an incision is made in the gums and a hole is drilled in the jawbone to place the implant (made of titanium). The wound is then closed with sutures.
👉 3. Recovery period: This involves waiting for the implant to fully adhere to the jawbone, which takes approximately 3-6 months, depending on the individual and the placement location.
👉 4. Post placement and impressions are taken for the crown. Once the implant is securely attached to the bone, the dentist will make a small incision in the gums to insert the post, which connects the implant to the crown. An impression is then taken and sent to the dental laboratory to create a crown or bridge, tailored to the shape, color, and size that complements the other teeth.
👉 5. Crown placement The dentist will schedule an appointment for the patient to permanently attach the crown to the abutment.
