A podiatrist treats clients with foot complaints and complaints that result from the malfunction of the feet, such as complaints about the knee, hip or low back pain.

Foot complaints can lead to chronic back problems.

When back complaints last longer than 6 weeks, we speak of chronic back complaints. Many factors can be the basis. Just think of (scoliosis, hollow back, leg length difference), weak or back muscles, wear and overload ...

The feet can also be an important cause for the recurrence of back complaints. The foot contains a shock-absorbing mechanism. At every step, this mechanism breaks the "shock" when the foot lands on the ground.

In people with chronic back pain, we often see that this natural shock-absorbing mechanism is not present at the height of the feet. As a result, the body and especially the back must absorb much greater forces.

The podiatrist can create more clarity about this by performing a gait analysis. This way you can see if there is sufficient shock breaking during the foot roll. If necessary, a support sole with possible heel raising can offer a solution.

Podiatrist's tip:
See for yourself the wear pattern of your shoes: with a normal wear pattern, the shoes wear on the outside of the heel. If you see wear centrally or on the inside of the heel, there is a good chance that the shock-breaking mechanism will not work optimally.
