Tired of your own thoughts?

The inner noise never stops... Worrying, judging, analyzing.

Satipathanna teaches how to observe mental states as they arise. In Vipassana, thoughts are not enemies. They’re just another object to observe.

The more we identify with our thoughts the more tired we become. Vipassana helps us to create space between you and the mind.

You are not your thoughts, thoughts come and go... Awareness stays present.

Stimulation VS. Silence

Stimulation is constant input.

It keeps us reactive, scattered, and exhausted. When the mind is constantly engaged by noise, tasks, and information, the nervous system stays in low-grade fight-or-flight.

Silent is Space.

In silence, the mind slowly unwinds. You stop reacting and start noticing. It’s the first step toward nervous system repair.

Vipassana & the Power of Silence

10 days. No phone. No speech. No escape. Just… you. Vipassana teaches you to notice everything — thoughts, pain, emotions — without getting swept away. Silence makes that possible.

Silence is not empty. It’s full of answers.

Would you try 10 days of silence? Drop a “yes”, “someday”, or “no way” below.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you sit in silence for 10 days?

We follow the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw, a Burmese meditation master know for his technique of "noting and knowing", that is mentally labeling each present moment experience.

All mental and physical phenomena are noted as the arise, exist, and pass away. They are known as impersonal phenomena and let go of. This development of mindfulness reveals the nature of all mental and physical phenomena as impermanent, unsatisfactory, and not mine.

The practice is deep and profound, we practice from before sunrise in the morning until the late evening.

No phones, no talking, no distractions...

This allows us to break old mental patterns, to reveal the root cause of stress and suffering, and to return to inner contentment.

When is last time you practiced cultivating loving kindness, happiness, joy, and peace?

Metta

The practice of loving Kindness…

We intentionally create, cultivate, and develop both pleasant and joyful thoughts and sensations.

First, we stablish these intentions and feelings internally

we then direct them to the world.

First, to loved ones…

Then to strangers…

Then to challenging individuals…

And then to all beings everywhere…

The results? As we think about ourselves less, cultivating a pleasant and peaceful mind, our suffering decreases, happiness increases.

Metta, one of the 4 Brahmaviharas, the 4 Divine Abidings, is one of the 4 most pleasant states for the mind…

The meditation bell is your call to become present, here and now.

If you wish to understand the nature of the mind, the nature of reality, you must take time for silence, for internal stillness - free from external distractions. We take this time for ourselves, to allow the mind to settle.

Much like a glass of muddy water - while it is stirred, we cannot see clearly. But when we allow the external agitations to cease, the glass finds stillness, the mud settles, and we can see through the water with clarity.

A Vipassana retreat offers the opportunity to let the mind settle, free from the disturbances of daily life. As the mind quiets, we begin to see its true nature. Through the development of present-moment awareness, we understand each experience as it arises, exists, and passes away.

It is only through this Clear-Seeing, this present-moment awareness, that the nature of reality is witnessed. Every experience, whether mental, physical, or emotional, is seen as impermanent, unsatisfactory, and not truly mine. Anicca, dukkha, anatta - the three marks of existence - are deeply understood.

Why would we want to recognize each moment with these three marks? Because it allows us to let go, to detach from personal entanglement, and to reduce our suffering. This is not about escaping life, but about experiencing its truth. The pleasant moments can be enjoyed more fully; the unpleasant can be accepted with greater ease.

We become free from the defilements of mind: lobha, dosa, moha — greed, hatred, and delusion. In their absence, we are liberated to experience the four divine abodes: metta, karuna, mudita, upekkha — loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity.

We move towards contentment, and contentment is the cause and condition of true happiness. As we become content, happiness arises naturally.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing this profound practice - to guide you into the present moment, and into a deeper understanding of the nature of reality, the mind, and the human experience.

Why Practice Vipassana?

You don’t need to be a monk to benefit from meditation.

You don’t need to live in a cave to find peace.

Vipassana—the practice of deep insight—gives ordinary people the tools to live with extraordinary clarity.

In daily life, this practice helps you:
• Respond instead of react
• Navigate stress with calm awareness
• Relate to others with more patience and compassion
• Feel more grounded, even when life gets messy
• Understand the roots of your own suffering—and begin to release them

This is not about escaping the world.
It’s about meeting it fully, with awareness.

Silent Vipassana retreats begin May 11 and June 11

Next Retreat May 11-21, June 11-21

Our training in Satipatthana Vipassana follows the teachings of the Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw and many other teachers and disciples from his lineage.

The Mahasi Sayadaw served as the chief questioning monk at the Sixth Buddhist Council in Burma from 1954 to 1956. Among the 2,500 senior monks from various countries present at the international symposium to authenticate the Pali texts, he was universally recognized as thoroughly learned and deeply practiced.

Today, in both Thailand and Myanmar, ordained monks and nuns attending Buddhist universities are required, as part of their bachelor’s and master’s curriculum, to study, learn, and practice the Mahasi method of Satipatthana Vipassana.

Within the circle of practice, among enlightened meditators, many masters teach the Mahasi method—even after decades of training in other forms of meditation.

Why?
Because it works.
It is authentic.
It is efficacious.
It leads to the desired results.

Our next retreats begin May 11 - 21 and June 11 - 21

Come and experience this living lineage in a supportive and silent container.

Contact us at Indriyaretreat.org to register.
