Umphang Hospital is a government organization in Tak, Thailand that treats all patients that comes to its door, regardless of ability to pay. In addition to its work at the Hospital, the Umphang Hospital Foundation promotes public health throughout Umphang district on the Thai-Burma border.

" เพราะทุกชีวิตมีค่า ไม่ว่าจะเชื้อชาติใด "

ในรัศมี 150 กิโลเมตรจากอำเภอแม่สอด "โรงพยาบาลอุ้มผาง" คือที่พึ่งหนึ่งเดียวของชาวบ้านเกือบ 70,000 ชีวิตในยามเจ็บป่วย เกือบครึ่งของจำนวนนี้เป็นคนไทยตามกฎหมาย ในขณะที่มากกว่าครึ่ง...มีสถานะเป็น "บุคคลหมายเลขศูนย์" หรือบุคคลไร้สัญชาติ ไม่มีหลักประกันสุขภาพหรือสิทธิในการรักษาฟรี

นอกจากภาระค่าใช้จ่ายสังคมสงเคราะห์ โรงพยาบาลยังประสบปัญหาการขาดแคลนบุคลากร ขาดแคลนยาและเวชภัณฑ์ ขาดแคลนพื้นที่ในการให้บริการ ช่วงไหนคนไข้เยอะ เตียงไม่พอ คนไข้ต้องนอนฟูกบ้าง นอนพื้นบ้าง โดยเฉพาะพื้นที่แผนกสูติ-นรีเวชกรรม โรงพยาบาลอุ้มผาง มีจำนวนผู้มาคลอดบุตรเฉลี่ยเดือนละ 60 คน หรือปีละกว่า 700 คน ในขณะที่มีห้องทำคลอดเพียง 1 ห้องเท่านั้น

ภาพแม่ลูกอ่อนนอนเบียดเสียดกันตามพื้น เป็นที่มาของการระดมทุนเพื่อสร้างอาคารคลอดบุตร โรงพยาบาลอุ้มผาง โดยมี นพ.วรวิทย์ ตันติวัฒนทรัพย์ หรือ "หมอตุ่ย" ผอ.โรงพยาบาล เป็นหัวเรี่ยวหัวแรง
