BACKGROUND
Aga Khan Health Services: With community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as East Africa, and more than 200 health facilities including nine hospitals, the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private not-for-profit health care systems in the developing world. Building on the Ismaili Community's healthcare efforts in the first half of the 20th century, AKHS now provides primary healthcare and curative medical
care in Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Pakistan, and Tanzania, and provides technical assistance to the government in health service delivery in Kenya, Syria, and Tajikistan.
The Aga Khan Health Service, Tajikistan is looking for a qualified candidate for the Specialist Doctor (Endocrinologist) (maternity cover) based in Aga Khan Medical Centre, Khorog. Under the supervision of the Head of Clinical Services the incumbent is expected to fulfil the following duties and responsibilities:
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Diagnose and treat hormone-related conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders,
metabolic disorders, and osteoporosis.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history reviews and
physical examinations.
- Utilize diagnostic tests, such as blood tests and imaging, to identify endocrine
disorders.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans, including medication
management, lifestyle recommendations, and follow-up care.
- Educate patients and their families about endocrine disorders, treatment options, and preventive measures.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians,
surgeons, and nutritionists, to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and manage chronic
endocrine conditions.
- Conduct and interpret laboratory tests specific to endocrinology, ensuring accurate
and timely results.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, documenting diagnosis, treatment
plans, and progress notes.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in endocrinology through continuous
education and participation in professional development activities.
- Participate in medical research to advance knowledge and treatment of endocrine
disorders.
- Supervise and guide medical technicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers
involved in endocrine care.
- Ensure the availability and proper functioning of medical equipment related to
endocrinology.
- Promote patient privacy and confidentiality in all interactions and documentation.
- Engage in hospital meetings, case presentations, and other professional gatherings to discuss patient care and program progress.
- Adhere to and promote the institution's safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Ensure all required.
- Proactively learn and understand all AKHS policies, and including Safeguarding
policies and procedure
- Stickly follow and maintain requirements of AKHS Safeguarding policies and
procedures.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager.
SPECIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
Education:
- Postgraduate Medical University / Specialized training or equivalent from a
recognized institution / Master's in Endocrinology from a recognized institution.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
Skills:
- Excellent inter-personal skills.
- Very good listening skills and be empathetic.
- Team player, analytical mind set and problem- solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a customer-oriented approach.
- Active listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not
interrupting at inappropriate times.
Technical Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English, Fluent in Tajik, and Russian.
- MS Office capabilities and working exposure to medical software is an advantage.
Personal Characteristics:
- Be respectful, must maintain confidentiality, well organized and proactive.
- Honest, hardworking, committed to organization and a good team player.
