Treating tear troughs — the hollow area between your lower eyelid and upper cheek — depends on the cause (volume loss, skin thinning, pigmentation, or shadowing).

Based on clinical reviews and expert guidance, these are the features you want in a filler for the tear-trough zone:
• Soft/low‐viscosity gel: Because the skin under the eye is thin, you need a filler that spreads smoothly and integrates well without looking “bulky” or causing lumps.
• Low hydrophilicity (water uptake): Fillers that absorb a lot of water can cause unwanted swelling or puffiness in the delicate infra-orbital region.
• Reversible: One of the benefits of HA fillers is the potential to dissolve (with hyaluronidase) if the result is unsatisfactory or complications occur.
• Appropriate placement & technique: Practitioners often recommend very small volumes in the supraperiosteal plane (above the bone beneath the muscle) for tear-trough correction.
