Giovanni Balato M.D., et al. reported an original article named « A comparison between 3D printed models and standard 2D planning in the use of metal block augments in revision knee arthroplasty» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.1591 and aimed to predict the need and size of femoral and tibial augmentation using standard two-dimensional (2D) templates and models created with three-dimensional (3D) printing in surgical planning. This original article concluded that prediction based on 3D computed tomography segmentation showed significant agreement with the intraoperative need for augmentations in revision TKA. The results suggest that planning with 3D printed models represents a stronger aid in this kind of surgery rather than standard 2D planning, providing greater accuracy in the prediction of the required augmentation in revision TKA.

Tuğba Güler M.D., et al. reported a case report named «Radiation-induced lumbosacral plexopathy and pelvic insufficiency fracture: A case report of unique coexistence of complications after radiotherapy for prostate cancer» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.1551 and presented a 78-year-old male with a history of radiotherapy for prostate cancer who developed right foot drop, severe lower back and right groin pain, difficulty in standing up and walking, and tingling in both legs over the past month during remission. This case report showed that it is important to consider the possibility of lumbosacral plexopathy in patients who present with new-onset neurological problems in the lower extremities. The diagnosis of pelvic insufficiency fractures should be considered if the pain does not correspond to the clinical findings of plexopathy. Both conditions have clinical significance as they can be mistaken for metastasis. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for guiding appropriate therapeutic management. While initial management may be straightforward, it is important to recognize that the management of these conditions can become multidisciplinary and complex and may even lead to challenging situations. Therefore, a holistic approach should be taken when evaluating patients to ensure comprehensive care.

Hande Usta Özdemir M.D., et al. reported a case report named «Electromyographic biofeedback training in a cerebral palsy patient undergoing pronator teres rerouting and brachioradialis to extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon transfer surgery: A case report» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.962 and presented a case in whom the outcomes of electromyographic biofeedback (EMG-BF) training were assessed after pronator teres rerouting and brachioradialis tendon to extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon transfer combined with derotation osteotomy. This case report showed valuable outcomes for the patient with CP who underwent pronator rerouting and brachioradialis to ECRB tendon transfer surgery combined with derotation osteotomy. Tonus regulation, the use of an audiovisual agent with appropriate technique, reinforced voluntary effort and muscular awareness, and active participation and motivation with supervised, regular, and prescribed follow-up enabled benefits to the patient’s postoperative outcomes. In parallel with the techniques developed in upper limb surgery in CP, further studies that investigate postoperative physical therapy and EMG-BF efficiency are warranted.

Recep Öztürk M.D., et al. reported a case report named «Slipped capital femoral epiphysis after tumor prosthesis implantation in a patient receiving chemotherapy» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.1493 and presented a rare case of acute slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) after tumor prosthesis implantation in a 10-year-old girl with osteosarcoma of the right distal femur. This case report showed that SCFE can be seen after adjacent joint surgeries in patients receiving CT. Therefore, plain radiographs can be seen to avoid missing an acute SCFE postoperatively. In addition, special attention should be paid to hip pain that occurs over time, even away from the implant site.

Muhammed Köroğlu M.D., et al. reported a case report named «A rare complication of tension band fixation of olecranon osteotomy: Distal migration of K-wire» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.1662 and presented distal migration of K-wire detected nine months after initial surgery in a 46-year-old male patient. This case report showed that physicians should be aware that K-wire fixation could cause severe complications. The patients should be informed about the importance of being closely followed up, and materials should be removed after fracture union is achieved to prevent unexpected complications.

Ming Li M.D., et al. reported a case report named «Ipsilateral above-knee amputation in patient with recurrent dislocation after total hip arthroplasty: A case report» 10.52312/jdrs.2023.1419 and presented a 63-year-old male patient with walking pain and limp has a history of acetabular fracture and central dislocation of the femoral head. . This case report showed that the lack of adherence to critical treatment may have led to the severe outcome of amputation. Therefore, patient education and compliance are essential for both the treatment of hip dislocations and arterial occlusion. Providing key educational messages at the beginning of treatment can enhance treatment adherence, particularly with regard to anticoagulants use. In addition, patients with hip joint dislocation after trauma surgery are the high-risk group of THA postoperative dislocation. A more detailed preoperative plan should be developed. During surgery, the soft tissues around the hip joint should be protected and repaired as much as possible, and the postoperative rehabilitation may also need to be more conservative.

Masatake Matsuokaa, M.D.et al. reported a case report named «Simultaneous medial closing wedge distal femoral varus osteotomy and double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in the symptomatic femoral valgus deformity: A case report» 10.52312/jdrs.2023.1176 and presented a 73-year-old female patient who developed lateral osteoarthritis of the knee with valgus alignment due to chronic ACL deficiency following a twisting injury during skiing. This case report showed that the simultaneous procedure of medial closing wedge DFVO with double-bundle ACL reconstruction in patients with symptomatic femoral valgus deformity demonstrated favorable outcomes at the three-year follow-up. While further studies are necessary to assess the reproducibility and long-term efficacy of this surgical strategy, the results of this case suggest that it can be a viable treatment option for patients with these specific conditions. The simultaneous procedure of medial closing wedge DFVO with double-bundle ACL reconstruction could be successfully performed with a specifically designed anatomic plate using a delicate technique, and yield good results even in an elderly patient.

Recep Öztürk, M.D.and Emin Kursat Bulut M.D. reported a case report named «Cortical hypertrophy in intramuscular hemangioma mimicking bone tumor» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.1604 and presented a 19-year-old male patient with intramuscular hemangioma causing cortical thickening of the bone. This case report showed that intramuscular hemangiomas located adjacent to the periosteum may cause hypertrophic periosteal reactions that mimic a periosteal or parosteal tumor. Contrast-enhanced MRI or ultrasound should be performed for the differential diagnosis of intramuscular hemangioma in cases with suspected osteoid osteoma. Osteoid osteoma should be suspected specifically when a nidus is not found on computed tomography and in patients with atypical symptoms.

Shao-Guang Li M.D., et al. reported a case report named «Conservative treatment of congenital radial head subluxation and non-traumatic elbow locking: A case report» 10.52312/jdrs.2024.1608 and presented a 30-year-old man with sudden onset of right elbow locking. This case report showed that congenital dislocation of the radial head without obvious symptoms can be usually observed, but if symptoms are obvious and it is difficult to reposition the radial head by manipulation, surgery may be indicated. In our case, the radial head deformity involved the radial fossa, causing elbow locking. Release of the bony entrapment facilitated successful manipulative repositioning.
