Did you hear about Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE)?
BPH—an enlarged prostate—affects about half of men over 50 and becomes more common with age.
PAE is a minimally invasive, same-day procedure. Through a tiny catheter placed in the groin, microscopic particles are delivered into the prostatic arteries to reduce blood flow. The prostate then shrinks, relieving urinary obstruction. For appropriately selected patients, outcomes are strong.
For men who no longer benefit from medication and prefer to avoid surgery, PAE offers an effective alternative—usually with fewer side effects and better preservation of sexual function. Experience and expertise in interventional radiology are key to success.
Today we performed PAE for a patient visiting from the UK with a very large prostate and catheter-dependent urinary difficulty.
Thank you to Prof. Dr. Enes Duman and his Interventional Radiology team for their excellent work. We hope our patient’s recovery brings the relief he has been waiting for.
