Last week, great dialogues, moments, and collaborations came to life at The Pavilion. We are grateful to have designed this space for ’s 20th anniversary. Thank you to our partners for making it possible, and to everyone who shared these moments with us.

The spatial design of The Pavilion has been created by Contemporary Istanbul’s Design Partner, WANGAN. During your visit, the layered installation of walls and ceilings woven with red fabrics evokes traces of the Tersane İstanbul, while their permeable structures allow for a fluid circulation between scenes. Defined by sharp lines yet softened by transitions, this composition weaves the space layer by layer.

Grey stone emerges as monolithic surfaces rising from the floor, while black oak appears as refined wall elements. Together, they define the spatial language of Smiles, creating continuity, rhythm, and coherence across clinics, consultation rooms, and offices.

Here, a work by the Munich-born artist duo Mehmet & Kazım forms part of the permanent collection, one of many pieces that enrich Smiles with artistic presence, turning a clinical environment into a space of depth and discovery.

At Smiles, the space flows without barriers. Freestanding volumes become clinics, consultation suites, meeting rooms and executive offices shifting between privacy and openness, function and care. A free-plan design where permeability and isolation exist in perfect balance. Neither enclosed nor exposed, just a fluid balance of openness and intimacy, where clinical units and encounters coexist seamlessly.

Smiles was designed to welcome patients as guests, in an environment closer to hospitality or cultural space than healthcare. Free-plan stone walls shift between privacy and openness, creating spaces that feel both calm and inspiring.

From the outset, art was integrated as an inseparable part of the architecture. A permanent collection, including works by Seçkin Pirim, Mehmet & Kazım, Tom Fellows, and Ömer Faruk Yaman, enriching the atmosphere, transforming each visit into a cultural experience as much as a moment of care.
