Autologous Ear Reconstruction in Adults with Microtia
One of the most common questions we receive is:
“You mainly treat children — do you also help adults?”
The answer is YES. 👍
Although most of our patients are children, we also treat adults who have not undergone ear reconstruction earlier in life. In some adults, however, age-related ossification of the rib cartilage may limit the feasibility of autologous reconstruction. This is not about your age but the natural changes in the rib cartilage over time. That’s why we evaluate rib cartilage with 3D CT imaging before surgical planning. If the cartilage is not ossified, we can reconstruct a new ear using the patient’s own cartilage.
