Understanding VASER Liposuction
Great strides have been made in the medical industry in recent years—including safer and more effective methods of fat removal. We believe in using only the most advanced, effective technology to help you achieve your dream body goals. If you are looking to remove pockets of stubborn, excess fat which is resistant to diet and exercise, VASER liposuction may be the ideal solution for you. Keep reading to learn more about VASER liposuction.

What is VASER Liposuction?

VASER liposuction is an FDA-approved fat removal method which improves the contour of your body by removing persistent pockets of fat. It is an acronym that stands for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance. Using specialized ultrasound technology, it sends out ultrasonic frequency waves which break the fat cells down. After the fat cells have broken down, the cosmetic surgeon removes the dead fat cells using advanced suction technology.

How Is it Different From Traditional Liposuction?

There are several differences between VASER liposuction and traditional liposuction, making VASER liposuction an ideal solution for your fat removal needs. First of all, the surrounding tissue is not damaged. Furthermore, due to the soundwaves liquefying the fat before removal, the accuracy of the procedure is vastly improved, and the fat is much easier to remove.

What Can VASER Liposuction do for Me?

VASER liposuction provides many benefits. It is ideal for precise body contouring as you can effectively remove excess fat from targeted trouble areas such as the lower abdomen, upper arms, or inner thighs. This procedure is even gentle enough to treat sensitive areas. VASER liposuction in Highland Park is the perfect procedure for individuals who wish to tighten their skin for a smooth, firm figure after they have lost a significant amount of weight or given birth or remove stubborn fat which is resistant to a healthy diet and regular exercise routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for VASER Liposuction?

During your initial consultation, one of our experts will help you determine if VASER liposuction is a good fit for you. You may be a good candidate for VASER liposuction if you:

Wish to add definition or tone
Want to shape and sculpt your body
Are in good general health
Are prepared to maintain a healthy lifestyle after the procedure
Wish to lose a few inches from around your thighs, waist, hips or arms
Are concerned about loose skin
Are near your ideal body weight

What Can I Expect?

VASER liposuction is virtually painless because the treated area is numbed before the procedure by a special tumescent fluid. This fluid also makes the fat removal even easier. If you are combining VASER liposuction with other cosmetic procedures or liposuction techniques, you may be put under general anesthesia. Procedures which are commonly performed in conjunction with VASER liposuction in Highland Park include breast lift, breast reduction, breast augmentation, fat grafting, facelift, and tummy tuck procedures.

How Long Does FaceTite Last?
Satisfaction with what you see looking back at you in the mirror plays a big part in fostering a sense of personal contentment, and freedom from the signs of aging and unwanted trouble spots is almost certain to nurture a heightened state of wellbeing. This is why Dr. Stephen Bloch offers the latest in non-surgical skin tightening. Thanks to the FaceTite treatment provided by Body by Bloch in Glenview, IL you can tighten loose skin with no need for a long recovery time.

What Is FaceTite?
This is an FDA-approved, minimally invasive treatment that delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy under the skin’s surface to melt fat and stimulate collagen production. This tightens the skin from within the dermis. It can treat areas with deep lines and loose skin anywhere above the shoulders, but it is usually recommended for returning firmness to the chin, jowls, cheeks, neck, eyes, mouth, brow, forehead or jawline.

How Long Do the Effects Last?
One of the main benefits of this treatment is that it pe*****tes more deeply than other RF and ultrasound energy treatments. Though its tightening effects are FDA-approved to last one year, many doctors and patients report results lasting up to five years.

This does not mean that in five years you will go back to looking the way you looked before. It is more likely you will notice a gradual reduction in overall tightness over time as your skin begins to show the normal signs of aging. Lifestyle choices such as using sunscreen daily, adopting a good skin care regimen, and abstaining from smoking will have the most say in how long your results last.

Additional Benefits
Though this treatment stimulates collagen production over an extended period, you might notice tightening within the first week and perhaps even immediately. Because it is minimally invasive, downtime is normally limited to three or four days. This is a much shorter interval than occurs with a facelift or with skin-tightening laser treatments. And since it is an outpatient remedy performed in a doctor’s office under local anesthesia, you will probably be able to get home by yourself afterward.

By the end of one week, there should be a visible improvement in the skin’s laxity. The tightening and contouring will continue to happen rapidly over the next three to four months, with up to 70% of the results appear within six weeks. The best results are noticeable after six months and will continue to improve for up to a year post-treatment.

Enhanced Outcomes
Doctors sometimes combine this treatment with liposuction on the neck and jowls to achieve more pronounced contouring results and greater definition in the jawline. They refer to this as radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL). A 2016 study published in the official open-access journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that outcomes resulting from RFAL satisfied the vast majority of patients receiving treatment. FaceTite can also be paired with Fractora RF, a treatment that stimulates collagen production in the top layer of the skin, by puncturing tiny holes in its surface.

How Does It Work?
Treatment involves heating the lower dermis layer of the skin, which is composed primarily of collagen. With time, the natural healing response of the body forms new skin-firming collagen. This is in addition to tightening existing collagen fibers and dissolving fat, which is why patients often see immediate improvement even before the long-term effects.

Previous RF devices did not pe*****te as deeply into the skin and results were therefore limited. But FaceTite is considered a next-generation RF treatment with heat and energy being delivered directly where needed. Consequently, it is not unusual for doctors to see the skin begin to contract while the patient is still on the table.

What Happens During Treatment?
Most doctors provide this care inside the office using local anesthesia or sedation and might administer anti-anxiety medicine to promote comfort during the initial numbing. This is known as tumescent anesthesia. This process also entails injecting a generous amount of anesthetic into the subcutaneous fat. This is the same preparation normally done before liposuction. Once completed, the normal reaction is to feel nothing.

The doctor then makes an incision in the treatment area that is so small it does not require stitches or leave a visible scar. The doctor then inserts a thin metal probe, called a cannula, into the incision to heat the tissue below the skin surface. The doctor regulates the amount of heat delivered, bringing the undersurface of the skin to 69° Celsius, or approximately 156° Fahrenheit, and passes an electrode over the surface at the same time to produce an electrical field. This field concentrates all the energy, maximizing skin contraction and fat coagulation. The treatment takes about 60 minutes from start to finish.

Safety
This treatment was developed to address delicate areas of skin without causing cellular damage to tissues, so it is generally safe, employing the same kind of radiofrequency technology used in Thermage, MRIs, and other medical treatments that have been performed safely for years.

To minimize any risks, it is important to have a skilled and experienced surgeon delivering treatment. Make sure to visit us for care that is delivered by a board-certified surgeon who has performed the treatment many times. Also, try to keep expectations realistic when going in for an appointment. While treatment can tighten skin significantly, the results will never replicate those of a surgical facelift or mini-lift. However, results usually will not leave visible scars, either.

What to Expect During Recovery
Signs of having had this treatment can last for a week or more, often peaking about three days afterward. Most patients take four to five days off work for their initial recovery. Some patients might still exhibit evidence of treatment for up to two weeks, depending on the extent of the work done and the individual’s personal factors.

Compression garments and ice help with recovery, so doctors often send patients home with a compression garment to wear around the clock for the first three days and then only at night for a few weeks. This is designed to give the skin extra support as it heals to maximize results. For patients with an event coming up or who need to be in front of people, a faster recovery can be encouraged by a tapered course of steroids.

Returning to a Normal Routine
After two days it is okay to shower, and after a week it is fine to resume regular activities, including exercise. Because treatment areas continue to feel numb for several weeks, there should be no pain during recovery, and the numbness should resolve on its own after a few weeks maximum.

Follow-up Care
With an experienced, alert provider, any concerns post-treatment are minimal. Those that might affect facial movement or create asymmetry usually resolve on their own in time, and arnica can help reduce any symptoms. If greater contour regularity is desired following fat removal, an additional treatment such as a facelift, fat transfer, or injectable fillers can be used to achieve the desired look. However, doctors recommend waiting at least six months before follow-up treatments to allow time for most of the collagen remodeling to occur.

Compared to Other Treatments
Thermage
This is another facial contouring treatment that uses radiofrequency energy, but it is a first-generation RF device that delivers less impressive results. A dermatologist, nurse, or physician’s assistant can perform Thermage, but FaceTite can only be done by a surgeon. Its temperature control is also more precise than Thermage’s.

Another difference is that Thermage uses an external probe that delivers energy through only one contact point, whereas FaceTite has both an internal and external probe to treat the skin from both sides. This allows thermal contraction of the skin’s full thickness and the connective tissue in the fat layer below the skin. Whereas the results of Thermage last about two years, FaceTite can last years longer, with more significant tightening and contour improvements.

Laser Liposuction
Laser liposuction is a minimally invasive facial contouring procedure that removes small pockets of fat. But it does not tighten the skin, which means patients must have good elasticity or they are likely to experience sagging.

Liquid Facelift
A “liquid facelift” is done with injectable fillers to add volume to sunken areas and help sagging facial skin look tighter and more lifted. But the results are temporary, lasting between six months and a year, depending on the type of filler used.

Utherapy
Ultherapy is yet another treatment, and this one uses ultrasound technology to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles by lifting and tightening the skin. It has a similar timeline as FaceTite, but the latter is newer and is typically more effective, especially when it comes to dissolving and removing excess fat. There is also a significant difference in the longevity of results. FaceTite usually requires only one treatment for results that last up to five years, whereas Ultherapy requires annual sessions to maintain results.

Mini Lift
One final option is a mini lift, which is surgery that removes lax skin around the cheeks and jowls. Though less invasive than a full facelift, this procedure is still followed by at least two weeks of downtime, and the cost of the procedure is much greater than a treatment with radiofrequency.

Who Makes a Good Candidate?
Ideal candidates are typically individuals in their 30s to 50s who still have good skin elasticity but are experiencing laxity and a mild-to-moderate sagging of the skin. Patients with significant sagging and poor skin elasticity are less likely to achieve satisfying results. Also, sufficient bone structure is needed to provide support for the tightened skin, though implants or fillers can be recommended if additional support is needed.

Because treatment is performed with a hand-held device designed to be as minimally invasive as possible, non-surgical care is ideal for people who are not ready to get actual surgery for a facelift or other cosmetic procedure.

How Much Does Treatment Cost?
Costs depend on the provider’s level of experience, practice location, the number of areas treated, and whether the treatment is paired with a complementary one, such as liposuction or Fractora RF.

6 Signs You May Be a Candidate for Cheek Implants
Cheek implants are used to augment the shape and definition of the cheeks. They can be used to solve a number of issues for patients, but they are not appropriate for everyone. How do you know if you are a good candidate for these implants? One way would be to set up a consultation with us at Body By Bloch in the Chicago metro area. Another is to read this article, in which we will answer some of the most common questions around cheek implants and help you decide you’re a candidate for them.

Cheek Implants FAQ
What Are They?
Cheek implants are a method of cheek augmentation that changes the underlying structure of the cheek. Unlike a facelift, which focuses on smoothing skin, these implants lend more shape to the cheek. The implants themselves are often made from medical silicon, although other materials are available. All of them are proven safe for use in this manner. These implants are intended to be permanent, but they can always be removed should the patient desire it.

What Are They for?
The depends on the wishes of each patient. Implants can help with the effects of aging, injuries, congenital conditions, or other factors that can lead to undesired facial contours or structures.

What Are My Surgical Options?
When it comes to cheek implants, there are two primary ways one of our board-certified plastic surgeons can conduct the procedure. Both involve the administration of anesthesia, which will help keep you comfortable during the surgery. Whether you receive general or intravenous anesthesia is up to you and your doctor. Once you are prepped for surgery, there are two options for the doctor to take, depending on what you have decided beforehand.

One option involves an intraoral incision, which means an incision inside the mouth. This is made at the top of your upper gum line, and from there, an implant can be slid into place. The other is an external incision at the top of the cheek near the eye. Many patients prefer the intraoral incision to avoid external surgical scarring that can result from the external incision. Overall, the procedure should take between one and two hours.

How Should I Prepare for This Procedure?
In the days leading up to your implant surgery, you should focus on keeping yourself well-rested and eating healthy, just as you would for any other surgical procedure.

Depending upon the type of anesthesia you choose, you may need to fast and/or arrange to have someone drive you home after the procedure. If you’re taking any medications, over-the-counter or prescription, be sure to inform us ahead of time in case you need to discontinue the use of any of them.

What Is the Recovery Period Like?
Recovery is usually short and simple, although your doctor will likely advise you to take it easy and avoid things like contact sports while your new implants heal and settle in. You may experience some tightness, as the skin over the cheek has been stretched to accommodate the new implant. If you selected the intraoral incision method for the surgery, your doctor may choose to provide you with preventative antibiotics to do the bacteria in your mouth.

On the day of your surgery, you should plan for a day or two of light activity. Your implants will need time to settle in and the soft tissues around them will require time to heal, keeping your implant in place. Generally speaking though, you can return to work and resume all other normal activities within a week of the procedure.

The Science of Your Cheeks
When you think of how people look when they’re young, chances are one of the things you think of are plump cheeks. As we age though, the soft tissues beneath the skin can begin to sag. This is one of the most recognizable effects of aging and one of the things that cheek implants are most effective at correcting. Many people assume that this sagging is simply the result of gravity and that even fixing it will only result in a temporary solution. Those people, however, are mistaken.

The gradual loss of the soft in pockets beneath the skin of the cheeks is the first thing that contributes to sagging skin. These fatty compartments break down over the years, and the skin that is used to being stretched over them then has nowhere to go but down. If a person has naturally low cheekbones, this effect can be even more pronounced. Luckily, implants won’t break down like soft tissues. They provide people who want to reverse these inevitable effects of aging with a permanent solution to this issue.

Implants vs. Fillers: How to Know Which Is Best for You
In addition to implants, cheek fillers are also a popular means of warding off the effects of age. Fillers are safe injections that a provider will inject directly into the area, and they can last for up to two years before needing a refresher. Fillers also only take five or ten minutes per treatment, unlike implants. Also unlike implants, you’ll need to get these re-done every few years in order to maintain their effect. Each of these options has pros and cons, but which is right for you?

Implants are more expensive than a single filler treatment. They also take longer, have a longer recovery time, and require anesthesia. All of these might make implants sound like a far worse option for most people than fillers, but when you add up the cost and time of going for new filler treatments once every two years, it’s easy to see how the two options equal out over time. If you’re not certain you want the change to be permanent, fillers are a great first step. If you’re averse to surgery or recovery periods, you’ll likewise want to choose fillers.

On the other hand, if you want the results of your procedure to last forever and not have to go back for more, and if you don’t want the results of your procedure to gradually change over time the way fillers do, your choice should be pretty clear.

6 Signs Cheek Implants Might Be Right for You
1. You Are In Good Overall Health
Any candidate for these implants must be in good health prior to the procedure. Our doctor will have to know about any pre-existing medical conditions you may have, particularly those that may impair hearing. You must not have skin that’s too thin for this procedure, and there are also certain bone disorders that can disqualify people from this kind of surgery. Being in overall good health, and in particular having good skin, bone, and ear health, will ensure that you qualify as a candidate for cheek implants.

2. You Have a Positive Outlook
Maintaining a positive outlook and being realistic about what a procedure such as this can help you accomplish is paramount to being a good candidate. Procedures like this one are meant to improve facial symmetry and bolster self-confidence, not achieve perfect facial balance. Being mentally and emotionally strong is therefore important.

Luckily, the recovery period for this particular procedure is fairly short; you’ll walk out of our clinic on the same day as your procedure and only need to return to have sutures removed.

3. You Want to Reverse Certain Signs of Aging
Many people who seek cheek implants do so to address problem areas that commonly crop up as they age. These include:

Sagging jowls
Cheeks hollowing out
Sagging skin or hollow areas beneath eyes
Deepening nasolabial folds
Nasolabial folds, the lines that start on either side of the bottom of the nose and run to the corners of the mouth, deepen with age. Beneath the eyes, the area where bags appear when people are tired will often sag and take on a crepe paper-like texture. The cheeks themselves lose volume naturally as we grow older, resulting in a hollow appearance. The cheeks serve as a support system for the rest of the skin on your face, too, which is why the jowl line will often sag as the cheeks begin to hollow.

All of this is a normal part of the aging process and happens to just about everyone. If you want to stave it off though, cheek implants are a quick, permanent way of doing so. As long as your expectations are kept realistic, you are a good candidate for this procedure.

4. You Have Used Cheek Fillers in the Past and Liked Them
Injectable fillers such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid are effective temporary means of enlivening the cheeks, but their effects will eventually fade.

These solutions may not require surgery, but if you want to maintain the youthful appearance they provide, you’ll have to return to the treatment repeatedly. If you love the look of cheek fillers but hate having to get them injected repeatedly, implants represent the one and only permanent solution. They are an investment you’ll be glad you made if you love the effect of cheek fillers and want to make it permanent.

5. You Have “Weak” Cheeks
These implants don’t have to be solely for anti-aging purposes. Those who have always been dissatisfied with the appearance of their cheeks and wished that they were fuller and plumper may also be candidates. Sometimes, genetics give a person a face that’s more flat or narrow than they would like, but the face can be given more structure and definition with the use of implants such as these. Even a subtle change such as this can help bolster a person’s confidence and self-esteem, improving their quality of life.

6. You Have Been the Victim of an Accident
Aging and genetics are one thing, but sometimes a person’s facial structure changes unexpectedly due to an accident. When this happens, implants can help restore a person’s original appearance, easing their mind and helping them move forward with their life. Implants can help restore an injured person to their previous appearance, which is an invaluable use that can transform lives.

Dangers of Awake Plastic Surgery
There is a widespread misperception among the lay public and even many physicians that local anesthesia is “safer” than general anesthesia. Combine this with the fact that local anesthesia can be significantly less expensive than general anesthesia and it can falsely appear like an appealing option…safer and cheaper. However, more often than not with plastic surgery, this is not the case. Procedures done under local anesthesia such as breast augmentation, liposuction or abdominoplasty are often performed by doctors with no plastic surgery training and put patients at risk. These procedures are more appropriately performed under general anesthesia in a safe manner. While under general anesthesia, the airway, breathing and circulation as well as all of the anesthetic agents are monitored by a specialist, a board certified anesthiologist. The surgery is done by a specialist…your board certified plastic surgeon. The combination of the two ensures patient safety.

Local anesthesia may be safe in appropriate settings. However, if administered inappropriately, in an inadequate facility, and for a procedure for which it is not designed….it can be dangerous and deadly.

Safety and Cosmetic Surgery – Part 1
It goes without saying that surgery must be safe. This is particularly true with regard to cosmetic surgery. A number of factors relate to safety but the two most important are: (1) who is doing the surgery….i.e., who is the surgeon, and (2) where is the surgery being done.

Clearly, the surgeon must be experienced, board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and have active hospital privileges…these are the minimal requirements and they are easy to verify.

Where the surgery is done is equally important but sometimes more difficult to evaluate. The difference between a free standing surgical center or hospital and an office setting is significant. Hospitals and free standing surgical centers (such as the Surgery Center of Weston) have large capital budgets that allow them to have the newest and best equipment available. Office operating rooms (no matter how “state of the art”) are limited by the budget of the surgeon(s)….and typically these OR’s are filled with refurbished or second hand equipment.

Another very important difference between a hospital or free standing surgical center and an office set-up is the personnel. Of course, a board certified anesthesiologist is absolutely necessary as are nurses. However, a single anesthesiologist and a couple of nurses may not be adequate in an emergency. Hospitals and free standing surgery centers have multiple anesthesiologists and a team of nurses available at all times……office set-ups do not. Fortunately the likelihood of having a problem from anesthesia is extraordinarily small…..but it is not zero. l like to be certain that if a problem occurs, there is adequate personnel available, including anesthesiologists, nurses and the best equipment and tools to take care of it.

FAQ About Getting A Full Tummy Tuck
What Is a Full Tummy Tuck?

A full tummy tuck (also known as an abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that flattens and firms your abdomen by removing excess fat and skin. While this procedure is not intended for major fat removal, it may be an excellent choice to achieve a smoother, tighter appearance.

What Can a Full Tummy Tuck Treat?

A full tummy tuck can treat a variety of aesthetic concerns, including, but not limited to the following:

Pot belly
Stretched and droopy skin in the abdominal area
Skin laxity in the abdomen
How Long Does It Last?

A tummy tuck is intended to be permanently effective as long as you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

How Do I Know If I’m a Good Candidate?

If loose skin or excess abdominal fat is getting you down and you have realistic expectations about the procedure, then a full tummy tuck in Highland Park could very well be right for you.

Why Choose a Full Tummy Tuck?

There is no shortage of reasons as to why people choose to undergo a tummy tuck. Here are a few of them:

To Regain a More Youthful Appearance – One of the tell-tale signs of aging is a pot belly or loose skin around the abdominals.
To Look Better – You’ll look better both with and without clothes after a tummy tuck.
To Gain Self-Confidence – Nothing gives the old self-esteem a boost like looking better.
As a Motivator for a Healthy and Active Lifestyle – Any cosmetic procedure – and especially a tummy tuck – is an amazingly effective motivational catalyst for a healthy and active lifestyle.
So Clothes Fit Better – Clothing can be extremely frustrating when you are carrying a little extra weight around the stomach. Clothes can fit too tight in some areas and too loose in others. A full tummy tuck helps to solve this issue by reducing the size of your abdominal region.

Questions Surrounding Laser Liposuction
What Is Laser Liposuction?

Laser liposuction in Highland Park is a way to melt stubborn fat cells in a minimally invasive medical setting. This cosmetic procedure differs from traditional liposuction in such that fat is vacuumed out using suction. Laser liposuction, or laser lipolysis, uses heat from fiberoptic lasers to melt body fat; the melted fat is then gently suctioned out. It is a highly effective method of reducing fat pockets that may be resistant to diet and exercise. Best of all, results are permanent when laser liposuction is combined with diet and lifestyle changes.

Benefits of Laser Liposuction

Laser liposuction not only melts stubborn body fat, but it also spurs the production of collagen. This gives the skin a needed boost of elasticity to prevent sagging and excessive stretching. The collagen helps the skin to retract after the fat removal instead of sagging. Our professionals may advise a few days of downtime following your procedure and any pain or bruising is minimal and temporary. Some results are immediate while others will appear gradually over weeks.

About the Procedure

Generally, laser liposuction takes an average of an hour per area being treated. Fat reduction is immediate and permanent and the procedure is safe and effective. During the process, the laser also heats the underlying tissue which promotes collagen production to tighten the skin.

Treatment Areas

Laser liposuction can target stubborn or excessive fat pockets in specific areas of the body, including stomach, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, flanks or “love handles,” the waist, chin, back of neck, and the buttocks.

Am I Eligible?

Laser liposuction allows for a broader range of eligibility than traditional liposuction. It is safe for people of all skin types and tones. Those seeking laser liposuction in Highland Park should be at or near their healthy ideal weight and have not recently undergone surgery. Our staff will review your medications and any pre-existing conditions prior to the procedure.
