                                            Iron for the brain 🧠
The activity of brain cells and its cognitive functions depend on the level of iron in the body.
Why is iron considered such an essential trace element, especially for the brain?
Back in 1984, an interesting study was conducted. It proved that a decrease in the level of ferritin (an indicator of iron stores in the body) leads to a decrease in memory, cognitive ability and a decrease in fluency (measured by a person's ability to come up with words that begin and end with certain letters).
In addition, iron takes an active part in the formation of nerve cells, which most actively occurs in the prenatal period and in the first two years of life. Therefore, the disorders of the intellect and psyche that arose due to a lack of iron during these periods remain very persistent and can persist for life.
Iron is also actively involved in the formation of such important biochemical substances as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. And with a microelement deficiency, an energy crisis occurs in the brain cells, which is a risk factor for the development of stroke, impaired conduction of nerve impulses and, as a result, impaired behavior and motor skills.
