✨ Septal Perforation Repair – 1-Year Follow-Up ✨
This patient had a 1.5 cm septal perforation following a previous nasal surgery.
Surgical repair was performed using a multilayer closure technique, supported with rib cartilage grafts due to the need for structural reconstruction.

At the 1-year follow-up, the septum appears fully closed, with stable and healthy mucosal healing.
The procedure also included rhinoplasty; however, external nasal images are not shared to respect patient privacy.

This patient presented with deformities following a previous nasal surgery, including nasal tip asymmetry, loss of tip support, and an irregular dorsal contour.
There was also a visible imbalance in the nostrils and overall nasal structure.

With revision rhinoplasty, tip support was reconstructed, asymmetries were corrected, and the nasal dorsum was reshaped to achieve a more balanced and natural appearance.
A stable and harmonious nasal structure was restored.

A 1 cm septal perforation following a previous nasal surgery.

Septal perforation is a known and rare complication that can occur after any nasal procedure, even when performed with the highest level of care.

The patient had previously undergone two septal perforation repair surgeries, both unfortunately unsuccessful.

The third repair was performed by our team.
A stable and successful closure was achieved.

Every case requires patience, precision, and individualized planning.

Nasal Septum Perforation Closure Surgery 2nd Week Postoperative Result

- This image shows the 2nd week result of a nasal septum perforation around 2,5 cm.
- The perforation was caused bu co***ne use.

🌎 Worldwide, the success rate of septal perforation closure surgery isnapprox. 60-70%.

🔬 With the surgical technique developed by Prof. Dr. Gediz Murat Serin and published reached around 90%.

- Howewer no surgical procedure can be guaranteed with 100% success.
- Even when the surgery is performed perfectly, about 1 out of 10 patients may experience reopening of the perforation.

❗️This doesn't necessarily indicate a surgical error.
Just as septal perforation may rarely occur after rhinoplasty without surgeon fault, individual healing capacity, tissue quality, and blood supply are decisive factors.

🩺 Septal Perforation: When the Cause Is Not Obvious

Not all nasal septal perforations have a clear or single cause.

While co***ne use and previous nasal surgery are well-known risk factors, many patients do not have these histories.

In daily practice, common non-rheumatologic contributors include:
• Childhood nasal trauma
• Chronic nose picking
• Long-term use of topical nasal sprays
• Recurrent infections
• Subtle mucosal ischemia over time

In some patients, these factors may act silently and cumulatively, leading to perforation years later.

📌 Even when major causes are excluded,
“idiopathic” perforations may still have an underlying trigger — just not an obvious one.

Understanding this helps avoid unnecessary blame, delays in diagnosis, and missed treatment opportunities. ***nenose
