Is it normal to still have a hump after rhinoplasty?
It is medically possible to observe a residual hump after rhinoplasty, particularly during the early healing phase when postoperative swelling obscures the final nasal contour. Temporary edema along the nasal dorsum may mimic a dorsal hump, although this appearance often diminishes as tissues stabilize.
Postoperative swelling on the nasal bridge is a common cause of perceived hump persistence, especially within the first weeks to months following surgery. Thick skin types and extensive surgical manipulation may prolong edema, delaying the full visibility of the refined nasal profile.
Incomplete dorsal reduction or structural irregularities may also contribute to a persistent hump if the initial correction was conservative or healing led to minor asymmetries. In such cases, the prominence may become more noticeable after swelling subsides and requires clinical evaluation.
Revision rhinoplasty considerations arise when a true residual hump remains after complete healing, typically assessed after 6 to 12 months. Surgical refinement may be indicated to achieve optimal dorsal contour and aesthetic balance based on patient-specific anatomical factors.
