GHTC Next term Presidency Decided by a Single Vote: Poland Elected to Lead GHTC 9th Term

CHISINAU, MOLDOVA – 26 September 2025 – The Global Healthcare Travel Council (GHTC) concluded its 9th General Assembly during GHTF 25 Moldova , with a dramatic, fiercely contested and highly competitive election for the organization's next presiding country, highlighting the democratic vitality and global commitment of its membership.
A Closely Contested Ballot
The election for the 9th Term Presidency (2026–2028) saw two formidable candidates—The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and The Republic of Poland—engage in a fiercely contested process. The intense campaign culminated in a secret ballot, the result of which was decided by the slimmest possible margin.
Following the final tally, The Republic of Poland was elected by a difference of just one vote.
This historic election outcome reflects the strong alignment and strategic visions presented by both nations, reinforcing the high stakes involved in GHTC leadership.
New Leadership and Seamless Transition
President-Elect Mr. Michał Piotr Dybowski (representing Poland) will officially assume the presidency in April 2026 with a flag exchange ceremony at Warsaw, following the successful conclusion of the Republic of Moldova's current mandate.
The GHTC Electoral Committee praised the integrity of the process and the commitment shown by both candidates throughout the General Assembly. The organization remains dedicated to a seamless transition to ensure the continuity of its mission to promote ethical, transparent, and sustainable medical travel worldwide.

💙 Today, on World Tourism Day, Chișinău hosted the 7th Global Healthcare Travel Forum – GHTF 2025, organized within the framework of the Moldova Tourism Forum. The event brought together over 300 participants from Moldova and 48 countries around the world.

“Today’s forum is more than just an event – it is a strategic platform for dialogue, innovation, and international collaboration, in support of a rapidly growing industry. A manifestation synonymous with our mission to transform tourism into a driver of understanding, respect, and progress,” said Sergiu Prodan, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Moldova.

During the five discussion panels, professionals from the fields of tourism, healthcare, and new technologies addressed the challenges of global medical tourism, including the advantages that new technology and Artificial Intelligence bring to patient care.

“For Moldova to reach one billion euros in medical tourism revenues over the next ten years, it must facilitate patients’ access to e-Visas and continue promoting medical tourism, as it has done over the past two years,” emphasized Emin Cakmak, founder of GHTC.

The forum also focused on the perspectives and development opportunities for the Republic of Moldova as a key destination for medical tourism, as well as the investment opportunities the country offers.

“The Republic of Moldova is writing an important page of history in the field of medical tourism. We are glad that international patients are increasingly choosing our country for the quality of services offered by private clinics and for the professionalism of our doctors,” said Natalia Ciobanu, President of ATMM & GHTC.

The event was organized by the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova together with the National Tourism Office, under the aegis of the Global Healthcare Travel Council (GHTC) and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova.

“Through this forum, the Republic of Moldova demonstrates that it is open to innovation, investments in the field of medical tourism, and that it has huge potential to become a regional hub of excellence in Europe,” noted Andrei Revenco, Founder and CEO of the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova.
