What is DISH Disease?
(Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis)
DISH is a condition where extra bone forms along the spine. Over time, this can make the spine stiff and less flexible. It can also affect other areas like the hips, knees, or shoulders.
Who gets it?
It usually happens in people over 50. The exact cause is unknown, but it may be linked to aging, diabetes, or genetic factors.
Common symptoms:
Stiffness, especially in the morning
Back or neck pain
Difficulty bending or turning
Trouble swallowing (if the neck is involved)
If symptoms are severe or affect daily life, surgery may be considered.
If you have ongoing stiffness or back pain, it's a good idea to get checked.

5 Early Warning Signs of a Lumbar Herniated Disc
1. Persistent Lower Back Pain
Ongoing back pain, especially after sitting for long periods, may indicate disc pressure.
2. Tingling or Numbness
Sensation of pins and needles in the legs may point to nerve compression.
3. Muscle Weakness
Struggling to lift everyday items or noticing reduced strength could be a sign of nerve involvement.
4. Sciatica Pain
Pain that radiates from your lower back down the leg is a classic symptom of disc herniation.
5. Pain Worsens with Movement
Bending, lifting, or twisting increases the pain; this should not be ignored.

If you recognize any of these symptoms, early diagnosis and treatment are essential.
As a neurosurgeon, I encourage patients to seek evaluation before the condition progresses.

We recently had the privilege of treating a patient from Azerbaijan who was diagnosed with a trigeminal schwannoma—a rare and challenging tumor located deep within the skull, near critical cranial nerves.

She arrived with uncertainty and hope. Under the care of Dr. Kamran Aghayev, the tumor was completely and safely removed using advanced microsurgical techniques. The patient recovered well and has now returned to her normal life, without neurological deficits.
Her story is a strong reminder that:
Even complex brain tumors can be treated successfully
Expert surgical care makes a difference
We wish her and all our patients around the world wellness and health.

Successful Eagle Syndrome Surgery – Another Life Changed!

We are proud to share the story of our patient who traveled all the way from the United States to Istanbul to seek help for his long-standing Eagle Syndrome.

After suffering for years from severe symptoms — including head pressure, throat pain, and ear discomfort — he finally found relief with Dr. Kamran Aghayev. We performed a precise surgical removal of the elongated styloid process, the root cause of his symptoms.

The surgery was a complete success, and we’re thrilled to report that all of his symptoms have completely disappeared. He has returned to his daily life pain-free and full of energy!

Thank you for trusting us with your health. We’re honored to help patients from around the world reclaim their quality of life.

Patient Success Story Anett Endrerud from Norway

Anett Endrerud came to our clinic after struggling with severe and disabling symptoms for an extended period, including occipital headaches, bilateral pulsatile tinnitus, vision disturbances, cognitive difficulties, and intense pulsating sensations in her head and neck.

Prior investigations in her home country suggested Bilateral Eagle Syndrome with vascular involvement. Imaging revealed a calcified stylohyoid ligament on the left and an angulated styloid process on the right, both contributing to compression of the internal jugular veins and associated vascular structures. The left side, despite having the shorter styloid, was the dominant symptomatic side, marked by pulsations extending to the skull base and breathing difficulties when lying down.

After reviewing her CT scans and discussing her case in detail via remote consultation, Dr. Kamran Aghayev diagnosed her with Bilateral Vascular Eagle Syndrome. Given the severity of the venous compression and the extent of her symptoms, surgical intervention was recommended.
Surgical treatment included:
Bilateral styloidectomy
Resection of the C1 transverse processes
Full decompression of both internal jugular veins, carotid arteries, and cranial nerves from the skull base down to the hyoid level
Removal of calcified ligament tissue to ensure full decompression and resolution of vascular compression
The operation was performed without complications. Anett is now recovering well, and we are pleased to see her already experiencing improvements in quality of life.
This case highlights the importance of individualized evaluation and experienced surgical management in complex vascular Eagle Syndrome.
We wish her and all our patients continued health and wellness.
