Kendisine güzel yorumları ve bu süreci samimiyetle paylaşmayı kabul ettiği için teşekkür ediyorum.

Reinke ödemi; çoğunlukla sigara kullanımı, yoğun ses yükü ve kronik irritasyona bağlı olarak ses tellerinde gelişen bir hastalıktır. Zamanla sesin kalınlaşmasına, kabalaşmasına, yorulmasına ve bazı hastalarda nefes problemlerine kadar ilerleyebilen bir tablo oluşturabilir.

Tedavide amaç yalnızca ses tellerindeki ödemi temizlemek değil; hastanın doğal, dengeli ve fonksiyonel sesini mümkün olduğunca koruyarak yeniden ortaya çıkarmaktır.

🇬🇧 Feedback from our patient with Reinke’s edema, who had been experiencing communication difficulties in daily life due to changes in her voice, is extremely valuable to us…
I would like to sincerely thank her for her kind words and for allowing us to share this journey so openly.

Reinke’s edema is a condition in which swelling develops within the vocal folds, most commonly due to smoking, heavy voice use, and chronic irritation. Over time, it can lead to a deeper, rougher, and more fatigued voice, and in some patients, even breathing difficulties.

The goal of treatment is not simply to remove the swelling from the vocal folds, but to restore the patient’s natural, balanced, and functional voice while preserving voice quality as much as possible.

I wish my patient a happy life with her new voice — one in which she can express herself freely and confidently.

🔴 Sürekli boğaz temizlemek

🇬🇧 In my interview published last March in the Hürriyet Newspaper Health Supplement, we highlighted five common habits in daily life that often go unnoticed yet can harm our vocal cords:

🔴 Frequent throat clearing
🔴 Shouting or speaking loudly
🔴 Not drinking enough water
🔴 Ignoring reflux
🔴 Speaking continuously for long periods

Although these habits may seem minor, over time they can lead to hoarseness and even permanent voice problems.

İki taraflı ses teli felci nedeniyle nefes darlığı yaşayan hastamızda, uyguladığımız lazer cerrahisi (J-kordotomi + parsiyel aritenoidektomi) sonrası hava yolu açıklığını artırırken, ses kalitesini de mümkün olduğunca korumayı hedefledik.

Hastamızın kendi ifadeleriyle; nefesi belirgin şekilde rahatladı ve sesinde belirgin bir değişiklik olmadı.

Eşinin en değerli gözlemi ise geceleri yaşanan hırıltı ve solunum seslerinin ortadan kalkmış olması…

🇬🇧In our patient suffering from dyspnea due to bilateral vocal fold paralysis, the goal of the laser surgery we performed (J-cordotomy + partial arytenoidectomy) was to improve the airway while preserving voice quality as much as possible.

In the patient’s own words, breathing improved significantly, and there was no noticeable change in the voice.

The most valuable observation from the spouse was that the nighttime wheezing and abnormal breathing sounds had completely disappeared.

In bilateral vocal fold paralysis, the main goal of surgery is to achieve the delicate balance between breathing and voice.
I am happy to have achieved this balance together with my valued patient on this journey toward better breathing.

🇹🇷Yapılan ilk ses teli ameliyatı ile hastanın sesinde istenilen düzelme olmamış veya kötüye gitme olmuşsa, bu durumun düzeltildiği ameliyatlara “revizyon“ ses teli ameliyatları denir.

Başarısız ses teli ameliyatları sonrasında yapılan revizyon ameliyatı ile daha iyi bir ses hedeflenir. Primer ameliyat ile (yapılan ilk ameliyat) kıyaslandığında daha zor ve başarı şansı daha düşük olan revizyon ameliyatları, genellikle ses cerrahisinde uzman cerrahlar tarafından yapılır.

🇬🇧 If the patient’s voice has not improved or deteriorated with the first vocal fold surgery, the surgeries in which this situation is corrected are called “revision” vocal fold surgeries.

In other words, a better voice is tried to be achieved with revision surgery performed after unsuccessful vocal fold surgeries. Revision surgeries, which are more difficult and have a lower chance of success compared to primary surgery (the first surgery performed), are usually performed by surgeons specialized in voice surgery.

In the video, 4 of my patients who underwent revision voice surgery are shared.

Shortness of breath due to bilateral vocal cord paralysis is immediately relieved after laser surgery. So how is the breath and voice of our patients 2 years later?

Avrupa’nın en saygın ses kongrelerinden biri olan Pan European Voice Conference (PEVoC 16), geçtiğimiz hafta Voice Istanbul Kongresi ile birlikte İstanbul’da gerçekleştirildi. Ülkemizin laringoloji alanında ulaştığı seviyeyi görmek gerçekten gurur vericiydi.

Bu büyük organizasyonu başarıyla hayata geçiren kongre başkanları Hakan ve Kürşat hocalarımı, kongre sekreterleri İlter ve Burak hocalarımı ve emeği geçen herkesi gönülden tebrik ediyorum.

🇬🇧 The Pan European Voice Conference (PEVoC 16), one of the most prestigious voice congresses in Europe, was held in Istanbul last week together with the Voice Istanbul Congress. It was truly a source of pride to witness the level our country has reached in the field of laryngology.

I would like to sincerely congratulate the congress presidents, Prof. Dr. Hakan Birkent and Prof. Dr. Kürşat Yelken, the congress secretaries, İlter Denizoğlu and Mehmet Burak Aşık, as well as everyone who contributed to the successful organization of this remarkable event.

It was an invaluable privilege for me to contribute to this scientifically outstanding congress as a session chair, a moderator, and a panelist in two sessions.

Videoda reinke ödemi nedeniyle sesi kalınlaşan ve kısılan hastamızın ses teli ameliyat öncesi ve sonrası ses değişimini paylaşılmıştır.

Sigara kullanan, konuşkan kadınlarda ses tellerinde görülen Reinke ödemi, yıllar içinde yavaş bir şekilde gelişir. Bu nedenle sesteki kalınlaşma ve kısıklık da zamanla ortaya çıkar. Hastalar, seslerindeki bu kalınlaşma ve kısıklığa alışır ve bu durumun kalıcı olduğunu düşünürler.

Ancak paylaştığımız videodaki hastamızda olduğu gibi, mikrocerrahi prensiplere uygun olarak yapılan ses teli ameliyatı ile hastaların seslerinde belirgin düzelme ve şikâyetlerinde anlamlı iyileşme sağlanabilmektedir.

🇬🇧 In this video, we present the pre- and postoperative voice changes of our patient whose voice had become deeper and hoarse due to Reinke’s edema.

Reinke’s edema, commonly seen in talkative women who smoke, develops gradually over many years. As a result, the deepening and hoarseness of the voice also occur progressively. Patients often adapt to these changes and may assume that their voice has permanently altered.

However, as demonstrated by the patient in this video, significant improvement in voice quality and symptoms can be achieved through vocal cord surgery performed in accordance with microsurgical principles.

🇬🇧 Our patient developed bilateral vocal cord paralysis following thyroid surgery. She had previously undergone a laser airway widening surgery at another center; however, she did not experience sufficient relief in her breathing and therefore presented to our clinic.

We are happy to have successfully completed this breathing journey with our patient after performing a revision laser airway widening surgery.
