“İki Taraflı Ses Teli Felcinde Yeni Bir Cerrahi Yaklaşım: J-Cordotomi”
4-7 Haziran 2025 tarihlerinde Prag’da yapılan 31. Avrupa Foniatristler Birliği Kongresi’nde, iki taraflı ses teli felci tedavisinde modifiye ettiğim yeni cerrahi tekniği sunma fırsatım oldu: J-Cordotomi.
Başta Prof. Dr. Haldun Oğuz .dr.haldunoguz olmak üzere kongre başkanı ve organizasyon komitesine nazik davetleri için teşekkür ederim.

🇬🇧“A New Surgical Technique for Bilateral Vocal Cord Paralysis: J-Cordotomy”
At the 31st Congress of the Union of European Phoniatricians held in Prague between June 4–7, 2025, I had the opportunity to present a new surgical technique I modified for the treatment of bilateral vocal cord paralysis: J-Cordotomy.
I would like to thank the congress president and the organizing committee—especially Prof. Dr. Haldun Oğuz .dr.haldunoguz —for their kind invitation.

👨‍⚕️ This method aims to ensure a safer airway while better preserving voice quality.

🎤 Especially for patients presenting with shortness of breath, it offers a more balanced solution to prevent complete voice loss.

📚 My presentation included case examples, technical details, and long-term outcomes.

💡 Scientific progress grows through sharing. I will continue to post summary information for interested colleagues and patients.

17-18 Mayıs tarihlerinde İzmir Bakırçay Üniversitesi’nde gerçekleşen 12. Uluslararası Katılımlı Dil ve Konuşma Bozuklukları Kongresi’nde, “Ses cerrahisi sürecinde Kulak Burun Boğaz - Dil ve Konuşma Terapisi iş birliği” üzerine konuştuk.

🇬🇧 On May 17–18, at the 12th International Congress on Speech and Language Disorders held at İzmir Bakırçay University, we spoke about the collaboration between ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialists and Speech and Language Therapists in the voice surgery process.

The treatment of voice disorders requires teamwork, and during this process, it is not hierarchy or egos within the team that lead us to success, but rather our focus on the patients.

Voice Feminization Surgery:

ℹ️ It is most commonly performed on male-to-female transgender individuals. It may also be performed on women who have been exposed to male hormones due to conditions such as polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS), who are required to take male hormones as part of treatment, or who naturally have a deep voice.

ℹ️ The most appropriate technique is chosen based on the patient’s anatomy and voice expectations.

ℹ️ A period of voice rest is necessary after the surgery, and smoking should be discontinued.

ℹ️ The success rate is higher when the surgery is supported by voice therapy.

🇹🇷 Davetli konuşmacı olarak katıldığım 10-12 Nisan 2025 tarihleri arasında gerçekleşen VoiceIstanbul kongresindeki sunumum, zorlu bir ses teli lezyonu olan sulkus vokalis (ses teli oluğu) hakkındaydı. Ameliyat öncesi tanısını koyduğumuzda bile tedavisi zor olan bu lezyonun, ses cerrahisi sırasında tesadüfen saptanması durumunda nasıl bir yol izlenmesi gerektiği hakkında kendi deneyimlerimi aktardığım, hazırlarken zorlandığım ama anlatırken de çok keyif aldığım bir sunumdu.

🇬🇧 My presentation at the VoiceIstanbul Congress, held between April 10–12, 2025, where I participated as an invited speaker, was about sulcus vocalis—a challenging vocal fold lesion. It was a talk in which I shared my own experiences on how to proceed when this difficult-to-treat lesion, even when diagnosed preoperatively, is discovered incidentally during voice surgery. It was a presentation that was challenging to prepare, but a real pleasure to deliver.

What Helps with Hoarseness?

When experiencing hoarseness, it is important to follow these recommendations:

ℹ️ Drink plenty of water and rest your voice.

ℹ️ Avoid caffeinated beverages.

ℹ️ Be cautious when using herbal products and avoid excessive consumption.

ℹ️ Do not use menthol throat lozenges.

ℹ️ Maintain a humid environment.

ℹ️ Do not smoke.

⚠️ If your hoarseness persists despite following these recommendations, you should consult an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist as soon as possible. ‼️

🇬🇧Recently, I’ve been receiving many questions from my patients and followers about “nerve transfer surgery.” That’s why I chose this topic for the interview. I hope it will be informative for everyone.

‼️ Summary of the interview;
ℹ️ “Nerve transportation surgery” is not a new surgical technique for the treatment of bilateral vocal cord paralysis. It has a 40-year history and is still being developed.
ℹ️ Unfortunately, nerve transfer surgery in bilateral vocal fold paralysis does not currently have the surgical ease and proven treatment efficacy that we can use routinely.
ℹ️ Currently, the most common and effective treatment for bilateral vocal fold paralysis is “laser posterior cordotomy/arytenoidectomy” surgery.
