During this period and in light of the devastating effects citizens experience when faced with prolonged showers and flooding, it is important to personally assess the need for emotional and psychological support. If you have ever experienced a traumatic event or a critical incident (any event that causes unusually strong emotional reactions that have the potential to interfere with the ability to function normally) please seek medical and or psychological services.
Common signs that signal a stress reaction and the need for professional assistance include:
Physical: chills, thirst, fatigue, nausea, fainting, twitches, vomiting, headaches, elevated blood pressure, weakness, rapid heart rate (These signs in particular require the assistance of a medical professional)
Cognitive: confusion, nightmares, uncertainty, hypervigilance, poor problem solving, intrusive images, poor concentration/memory, disorientation, poor attention, heightened or lowered alertness
Emotional: fear, grief, panic, anxiety, agitation, depression, irritability, emotional shock, loss of emotional control, inappropriate emotional response
Behavioral: withdrawal, inability to rest, intensified pacing, hyperalert to environment, erratic movements, loss or increase in appetite, antisocial acts, change in usual communications
Please take care of yourself if your experiencing any or all of these symptoms
