Roslyn Chinapoo founded the St.Dorcas Home while she was employed at the San Fernando General Hospital where wards were overcrowded because family members who could not care for their elderly parents had left them, when the patient was discharged the families would refuse to take them and some would even stop visiting. This placed the hospital in a position where they couldn't put the person out on the streets and they couldn't keep them indefinitely. And nursing home care was something only for the wealthy, Mrs Chinapoo welcomed 2 of those patients into her home and care for them she hired a caretaker for them at the times she had to work. This selfless act was the beginning of something great not only in her life but the life of every person who passed through her care
