CNA’s/PCA's/Registered Nurses have used a technique involving latex gloves filled with warm water to simulate human touch and comfort isolated patients for years . This method, sometimes referred to as “hands of love,”❤️ is done By filling latex gloves with warm water and placing them on patients’ hands, the sensation mimics that of holding a human hand, providing emotional support to patients in isolation.
A study published in 2024 evaluated the effects of this “love glove” ❤️application on vital signs of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units. The findings indicated significant improvements in respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation after the application, suggesting that this simple, non-pharmacological intervention can offer both emotional and physiological benefits to patients.
