It’s a bad morning. The dreadful drone of the toxic chemical transport for the elimination of all life, woke me at 5am. I went outside to follow the noise and the smell as it poured its way into every nook and cranny of our village environs. The invisible, poisonous mist of death came just in time to greet the birds waking up from their safe slumbers in the branches and trees along the wayside and I despair. Yes I am passionate about all life, human and all the other creatures that share our planet. Yes I have had dengue fever and I have nursed a grandchild with dengue. It is a dangerous, debilitating disease. But dengue fever mosquitoes breed in clean water. Why can’t we get together as communities and try to educate each other on the importance of keeping our yards clear of the clutter that collects rainwater. If a neighbour is old and needs help, go and help them. Use the media to remind people to clean up, talk to children in school, impress them while they are young. There has to be a better way to provide a healthy life and common sense must tell us that spraying with toxic chemicals is not the way.

We haven’t posted anything for almost a month! But we have hosted two visiting groups of interesting people as shown in these photos kindly taken by Jeffrey Wong Sang. We gave the TT Field Naturalist Club a tour of the Gardens and explained why and how we had decided to re green our property, which had been sadly neglected for many years. Our second group of visitors came from Wasamaki where they were doing a housebuilding with mud workshop. Everyone enjoyed the experience. Tours are available for groups interested in rehabilitating land to encourage birds and butterflies to return and learn about the importance of weeds in the process.

This June our trees have flowered and fruited beyond expectation! This beauty is the Posoqueria with sweet smelling flowers that are pollinated by a moth. Today is just the start of the flowering.

As we stop poisoning our garden with chemicals and Ajoupa gets greener, we have new visitors that hopefully are here to stay. This is the first time we have seen this little galap or morocoy in the garden. I am told that snails are a big part of their diet, so I hope they will help with eating up the pesky African snails.

I love the rain, it brings out all these shy bloomers! The second photo is a small guava given to me by an Arouca friend. We have never seen a flowering like this before, and so many bees in it finding nectar. Can anyone guess what species the last flower is?
