Hey!!! Stop! Donāt come for me because I know everywhere we are being bombarded by so many exercise options!
But many patients who complain of tightness or feeling stiff have great range of motion!
This client, who can do the split and some other amazing acrobatics, complained of stiffness at her hips during the course of the day. She was in a mobility training class and her symptoms worsened! (No surprise here!)
On a proper physical assessment, we discovered that her hip, knee, ankle and abdominal strength were markedly diminished! After just 2 weeks of focus on stability and strengthening, most of her symptoms went away!
The sensation of stiffness is sometimes a sign of poor strength, endurance or lack of control.
So when starting any exercise programme, make sure you have a programme thatās balanced (meaning thereās a combo of strength, mobility, endurance and balance work) that fits your lifestyle and most importantly, is suitable for your needs! See your doctor AND physio for proper guidance!
