Did you know, uterine fibroids are non cancerous growths that form in various parts of the uterus?

70% of fibroids are intramural (grow within the muscle layer). Some are subserosal (grow on the outer surface of the uterus). Some are pedunculated (grow inside of the uterus).

Depending on the location, these Uterine fibroids can cause various symptoms such as heavy/painful periods, lower back pain, low blood count or anemia, urinary frequency or infertility.

What causes fibroids?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

To be honest, there isn't one short or simple answer to this question. Factors that cause fibroids can differ from woman to woman — but here are a few things that could potentially cause fibroids.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOO MUCH ESTROGEN. Estrogen is a s*x hormone that is created by cholesterol. This hormone is usually highest in the first half of your menstrual cycle and then peaks right before ovulation. However, other factors can cause too much estrogen, like our diet: for instance, eating too much sugar or refined carbohydrates, having excess caffeine and soy products, and more.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
GENETICS. Unfortunately, genetics play a role in your likelihood of getting (or not getting) uterine fibroids. If your mother had uterine fibroids, there is a likely chance you could, too.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A POOR DIET. Eating too many synthetic hormone foods (like milk, cheese, yogurt, and inorganic meats), consuming too much alcohol, and not eating enough fruit or vegetables all have links to getting uterine fibroids. Overweight and obese women are also at a higher risk of getting fibroids.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

NOT GETTING ENOUGH VITAMINS. Lacks of vitamin D and zinc in the body have been said to be a leading factor in fibroid growth.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
