It's "Blue" Friday!

Today we celebrate 13 years of Premier Heart Care Limited under the stewardship of Dr. Clifford Thomas.

What began with one machine and one Cardiac Nurse has grown into a full cardiac diagnostic lab, supported by a dedicated team, specialised consultants, expanded services and a Tobago office.

Over the years, our mission has remained the same, to provide accessible, high-quality cardiac care with compassion and expertise. And as we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to bringing you even more advances in cardiac care soon.

We were proud to stand alongside the Trinidad and Tobago Heart Foundation as a sponsor of the "Heart & Sole" 5K Run/Walk, last December. This event brought together families, fitness enthusiasts and advocates, in support of heart health across Trinidad & Tobago.

At Premier Heart Care Limited, promoting cardiovascular wellness isn’t just what we do at the office, it’s who we are.

Supporting initiatives like TTHF's "Heart & Sole," aligns with our philosophy of proactive care, prevention and empowering our community to take steps - literally and figuratively, toward healthier lives.

• Start hydrating before the fete or parade

Too much alcohol can raise blood pressure, triglycerides, and strain your heart. Observe portion control, alternate with water and you can savour the season safely.

Holiday treats are meant to be enjoyed - just not in extra-large portions!
Many people find that after the holidays, their cholesterol levels (especially LDL and triglycerides) come back higher than expected.

Rich, high-fat and high-sugar foods are best enjoyed as small treats. A little mindfulness with portion sizes can go a long way in protecting your heart, without taking the joy out of the season!

Dr. Clifford Thomas and Dr. Iovank Gonzalez received a surprise visit today from Dr. Simone McFee - who is now a Specialist Medical Officer in Internal Medicine.

Dr. McFee completed her DM postgraduate program in December 2024, after conducting a research study in collaboration with Premier Heart Care, the Tobago Health Studies office and the University of Pittsburgh, for her DM Thesis. She received her postgraduate certificate at her graduation ceremony at UWI St. Augustine on 25th October 2025.

The American Heart Association has published an excellent summary comparing Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attack.

Cardiac Arrest is an abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia) that occurs when the ventricle suddenly stops beating (asystole) or fibrillates (ventricular fibrillation). It is fatal if the patient does not receive immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

A Heart Attack (myocardial infarction) is sudden damage (infarction) of the heart muscle (myocardium) caused by occlusion of a coronary artery. Treatment is urgent hospitalisation to re-open the blocked artery with drugs (thrombolysis) or stents (coronary angioplasty / PCI).

Founded in 2013, our cardiology specialty practice provides reliable, caring, state-of-the art health care services at our clinics and affiliated medical facilities.
