Friday’s ATL Motivation
A friend recently said. “Progress comes to those who are consistent”, and I instantly recalled the vow I
made to myself at the beginning of the week. “You WILL be CONSISTENT”, yet, looking at my activity
calendar, it says quite the opposite.
Normally, I would browbeat myself into guilt and accusations of laziness, but that doesn’t solve the
problem or make me feel any better, leading to a feeling of even lower energy and inadequacy. So
instead I chose to do a small workout today, which I KNOW, as soon as I begin, my mood is going to lift.
Having a busy schedule at work and at home means that I sometimes unknowingly feel overwhelmed,
and that feeling can lead to lower levels of those “feel-good” hormones coursing through my body.
Instead of sitting in that low vibrational emotion for days on end (like I used to do not too long ago), I
reach for my watch and choose the simplest and shortest workout that will increase my heart rate and
charge my muscles, and BOOM! HERE I AM WORRRRLD!!!
Short and sweet. This is the type of advice I give to my clients when they, too, are struggling to stay on
track with their health and fitness routine. “A little sip here and a little sip there” helps to keep the
engine running.
Love yourself in good times and seemingly bad times and remember…

Getting out in nature alone or with good friends is a great way to reconnect with oneself and the environment. The benefit is known as Grounding. This happens when your shoes are removed and your feet directly interact with Mother Nature’s electromagnetic field, which rebalances your body’s electromagnetic field.

At the Accelerate Action with Intentional Self-Care event hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Sister Society, our very own sports and remedial therapist, Vanessa Aberdeen, shared key insights on the often-overlooked and varied signs of pelvic floor dysfunction. One of which can be persistent lower back pain with no obvious cause.

Now we’re following through with some tips if you’re experiencing this type of lower back pain.

Vanessa recommends a holistic treatment approach:

Pelvic floor activation via exercises like Kegels.
Glute, hip, quad, hamstrings and inner thigh and foot activation and strengthening.
Releasing and engaging the psoas.
Specific deep breathing practices to synchronize the lung and pelvic diaphragms.
Postural alignment exercises to align the spine, ribs and pelvis.

Be sure to consult your physician for a proper diagnosis and prescribed treatment.
