Children and adolescents often feel misunderstood, confused and that their problems are unique to them. These feelings, which are normal at the pre adolescent and adolescent stages can lead to feelings of loneliness, anxiety and depression. Group counseling creates a space where children feel free to express their fears, share their strengths and be a part of a group of people who have similar problems. This makes them feel validated, supported, and understood.
When part of a group such as this, children are able to benefit from the use of professional guidance and developmentally appropriate activities, which aid in appropriate articulation of feelings and social feedback that they would normally have difficulty expressing to adults.
Group counseling is known to help children improve their self-esteem, as it provides a platform for them to help others and form meaningful supportive bonds.
The therapist facilitating the group uses structured activities, to teach proven strategies that equip children to cope with specific problems. Group members will have the opportunity to practice these skills in a safe environment and receive feedback. With time, group members begin incorporating these strategies into their daily lives.
Our groups are term-based. The new term begins on January 13th 2017. Groups are small so spaces are limited. Call or email to register your child's spot.
