In the world of entrepreneurship, “luck” is often the label placed on years of invisible, high-stakes persistence.

When I launched Smile Inn Dental in late 2019, I didn’t have a blueprint, I had a 10x10 room, a skyrocketing rent, and the weight of being a first-mover in the Caribbean with Invisalign technology. Then, the world changed.

Professional resilience isn’t about having a perfect plan; it’s about the mental agility to stay standing when every “almost” deal falls through. It’s about navigating three different property transitions and holding the roles of manager, cleaner, and clinician simultaneously until the foundation was secure.
Innovation is rarely a comfortable path. It requires the courage to invest in a vision that others can’t yet see and the integrity to keep building when the pressure is at its loudest.

True harmony is invisible. When I look at a transformation like this, I’m looking for the “center,” that perfect alignment where the upper and lower teeth meet in a straight, intentional line.

Coming to terms with a world that keeps moving is one of the hardest parts of this journey. But I’m reminded every day that living my life to the absolute fullest is a responsibility. It is the only way to honor my sister, who always wanted the very best for me. 🕊️

I’m entering this month knowing that it’s okay to be both fragile and fierce. Some days the random tears will come, and I’ll let them.

When I look at crowded teeth, I’m seeing more than just an “unpleasing” alignment. I’m looking at the daily battle for space between your teeth and your jaw.

For most, the concern is aesthetic. But in my chair, we talk about the functional reality of crowding:

Most people think they just have “crooked teeth,” but what they’re actually seeing is a lack of space. 🦷✨

Look at how much more room this smile has now. By gently widening the arch and rounding out the alignment, we created a fuller, more radiant flow that balances the entire face.

The details of this shift:
✨ Corrected the crowding to create a clean, seamless look.
✨ Widened the sides of the smile for that “red carpet” fullness.
✨ Balanced the bite so the function finally matches the aesthetic.

There are days when showing up feels like the hardest thing to do.

Coming to the Brunch Park to see our Smile Inn refresher station was a moment I’ll never forget.💛 This project was a labor of love that my team and I started long before the world felt so heavy, and seeing it finally come to life brought a much-needed glimmer of light to a very dark time.

Lately, I’ve been learning what it truly means to put on a brave face. It’s not about pretending the pain isn’t there; it’s about choosing to show up for my patients and my vision, even when my heart is breaking.

I honestly couldn’t have done this without the incredible support of my team. They’ve carried me when I couldn’t carry myself, and they’ve helped me keep our big dreams moving forward. These small moments of connection and the work we do at Smile Inn are what’s getting me through right now. They remind me that even in the midst of devastation, there is still purpose and beauty to be found.

Yesterday marked one week since losing my baby sister.

She was on the Lost Tribe committee.
She chose this costume.

So I decided I would wake up early — earlier than I ever do for Carnival (because if you know me… I’m an 10/11am Carnival girl 😅) and I put on her costume.

And I started Carnival Tuesday differently.

I played with Lost Tribe through the streets of Port of Spain. Charlotte Street. Every step felt intentional. Every song felt heavier. Every lyric carried her.

And then something happened I didn’t expect.

SOOO many of you came up to me.

You shared your stories.
You told me how much you loved her.
How devastated you were when you found out.
How bright her light was. How kind. How unforgettable.

Your words gave me strength I didn’t know I needed.

Because crossing that stage for her meant the world to me.

As I waited, my chest tightened annd when I finally crossed… I could hear her singing. Passion in every word. Exactly how she always did.

My eyes were perpetually welled up.
I had to pause and breathe more than once.

But I loved every moment.
I felt her there.

I love you so much, Shalleika 🥺❤️

Thank you to her family and especially for being so accommodating and making every detail feel intentional and special. I wanted to celebrate my sister. And you allowed me to do that with dignity and so much love.
