Grateful for the opportunity to attend and learn from so many doctors and professionals locally and internationally about the importance of the Integration of medicine. It's not about an "Us" vs "Them" model, it's about a "Patient Centered/Evidence based" Approach.

How Cupping Works

Cupping therapy involves placing suction cups on the skin to create negative pressure. This suction pulls the skin and superficial muscle layers upwards into the cup. The vacuum effect expands blood vessels, promoting increased blood flow to the treated area. This enhanced circulation can help to relieve muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and facilitate the removal of metabolic waste products.

Cupping is often used to alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and promote healing in the shoulder region by encouraging the body's natural healing processes. It is important to hydrate shortly after the therapy to allow faster cleansing of metabolites.

🧠 Purpose in Life Protects the Brain from Dementia

A new study from UC Davis reveals that cultivating a strong sense of purpose can help the brain resist aging and delay the onset of dementia.

Following more than 13,000 adults aged 45 and older for up to 15 years, researchers found that individuals with a higher sense of purpose were about 30% less likely to develop cognitive impairment, including mild cognitive impairment and dementia.

This protective effect was seen across all racial and ethnic groups and remained significant even after accounting for education, depression, and genetic risk factors such as the APOE4 gene. While the delay in symptoms averaged only 1.4 months over eight years, scientists highlight that this gain is comparable to or greater than what some new Alzheimer’s drugs achieve—without the cost or side effects.

Importantly, purpose in life can be fostered through relationships, volunteering, spirituality, or pursuing personal goals. “Purpose helps the brain stay resilient with age,” notes senior author Aliza Wingo.

The findings emphasize that psychological well-being is more than mental health—it may be a crucial factor in healthy aging and reducing dementia risk.
