Tableland Pineapple Farmers Association

Tableland Pineapple Farmers Association Supporting local food production, stakeholder collaboration and public education have been the TPFA?

Over the years the Tableland Pineapple Farmers Association (TPFA) has committed to helping farmers and other stakeholders including the consumer to understand the imperative to supply food that is wholesome and affordable, protect the environment, recycle natural resources, increase local food consumption, support rural and coastal communities and illuminate the connection between healthy and responsibly-grown food and environmentally-sound farming practices. The TPFA is willing to support collaboration within the agricultural and fishing community to identify and create a food system that is not only safe, but also allows farmers and fishers to meet the demand for local foods without excessive Government regulation and expenditure. This position is intended to demonstrate that farmers and fishers are committed to supporting safe and affordable food and nutrition security in Trinidad and Tobago. Supporting local food production has been one of TPFA’s priorities since we were formally registered in 2004, not withstanding our existence since 1989. We pursue educational opportunities for farmers and the public in the areas of organic and sustainable farming systems generally, as well as public education and awareness, especially to the nation’s youth, on the importance of consuming and supporting local agricultural output. Farmers need assistance with infrastructure, expanding their markets and marketing there a wide range of issues affecting the food production section as a whole get out attention from time to time.
