Centre for Addiction Prevention and Healthy Living Nonprofit Organization. Alleviating Addiction through Education & Awareness. Recovery. Health & Wellness

Our Approach
The T & T National Council on Alcoholism and Other Addictions also referred to as the Council is mandated by an Act of Parliament, Act 36 of 1977, to sensitize and educate the public on the disease of Alcoholism, and now too, other Addictions. The Council promotes mental health awareness and prevention of addictions or other risky behaviours through the delivery of a comprehensive pro-social strategy comprised of individual assessments, counselling therapy, life skills training and education, and sustained promotional interventions. The individual components of our prevention program do not operate in isolation, but they work together toward the well-being of persons at risk and the community as a whole. In so doing, we offer various programming and project initiatives that are evidence-based and have as their goal youth development and health risk reduction. Since a major focus of our programming targets youth within their communities, there is an expectation that learning and key protective factors are enhanced, which strengthens and enables them to deal more effectively with trauma, grief, pain and all the other social challenges that can come with living.

Authorities were alerted on August 6 and immediately began inspections at both the dispatch and delivery points. The process includes reviewing delivery logs, checking package labels, and requesting detailed reports as well as security footage from the facilities involved.

🚨DRUNK DRIVING ALMOST CLAIMED TWO LIVES🚨

The man seen in a widely circulated video slamming into two pedestrians near Independence Square has been identified as Joseph Medina, a Mt. Hope resident and reportedly an employee at the Ministry of Education.

According to police reports, Medina was attempting to flee the scene of a prior accident when he struck the pedestrians. Eyewitnesses noted that he appeared highly intoxicated, a suspicion confirmed by a failed breathalyzer test.

One of the victims—a woman—is currently in critical condition. The other is still being assessed. Medina is now in custody at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) as investigations continue.

This is a sobering reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence. Alcohol impairs judgment, slows reaction time, and turns vehicles into weapons. Lives can change—or end—in seconds.

Addiction doesn’t just hurt the person struggling—it can destroy innocent lives too. Let’s all do our part to prevent these tragedies by raising awareness, supporting those battling addiction, and never getting behind the wheel while impaired.
