Here are some signs and symptoms of Autism that you can look out for, if you suspect your child may be on the spectrum.

Did you know? Some children with ASD may not show signs early ❗AND❗some children who don't have ASD may exhibit some of these symptoms too!

I'm often posed questions related to the difference between Psychology and Psychiatry. I decided to highlight what I deem to be the most distinct difference between the fields.

Psychology, for the most part, aims to address the root cause of disorders/symptoms/behaviour with the use of cognitive and behavioral approaches.
Psychiatry, on the other hand, makes use of medication to mitigate the symptoms associated with mental illness.

Example: Depression.
Psychology employs therapy to allow the individual to tap into the root causes (eg. abuse, trauma, situational factors etc.), and find solutions.
Psychiatry prescribes antidepressant drugs to alter brain chemisty and balance mood.

So...What does a Developmental Psychologist do exactly??🤔

After graduating from St. Joseph's Convent, POS, I began my journey locally, at the University of the Southern Caribbean where I obtained a BSc in Psychology. During my time there, I fell in love with the theories and principles of Psychology and paired this with my existing love for children. I volunteered at a school for children with physical disabilities and this life-changing experience prompted me to pursue a career in special needs.

After graduating from USC, I worked at a private school for children on the Autism spectrum before leaving T&T to further my studies in the UK as a National Scholar. I graduated from the University of York in 2018, a proud holder of an MSc in Development, Disorders and Clinical Practice. I've since completed 1 year of service at the school I initially volunteered, and now I bring my services to you!
