Infection control is critical in diabetic wound care.
In cases like this, early intervention is not just recommended - it's vital. Unfortunately, the infection had already reached the bone, making it necessary to remove the toe in order to prevent further spread and avoid a higher-level amputation (like the entire foot or leg).
Before the procedure, blood flow tests were conducted to ensure that the area could heal properly after amputation. Offloading will be used during recovery to protect the area and support healing.
Every effort is made to save the limb, but when infection becomes severe, this type of intervention is sometimes the only way to save the patient's life and prevent greater loss.
This is why early screening, regular foot checks, and prompt medical attention are crucial for people living with diabetes.
