Meditation denotes the practise used for improving the way we think.It is the power to exercise choice over the thoughts and feelings that I accept and nurture in my mind.It is to first observe and then select productive thoughts while ignoring the negative and unnecessary.This process strengthens our mental muscle in the same way that physical exercise strengthens the body.With regular practice meditation could be used to focus the mind on God or any selected topic.It enables one to reduce stress and pain,speed up healing and recovery,enhance well-being and improve creativity. The practice of meditation supported by the study of values and virtues connects the inner world of thoughts,feelings and ideas to the outer world of actions,relationships and accomplishments.Meditation builds personal capacity. At the medical level the benefits of meditation include; avoiding and alleviating stress,high blood pressure,cancer,heart disorder and other major diseases are well documented.Less well known are the benefits that accrue in the form of a healthier lifestyle,improved social relationships and a longer lifespan.
