Today is World Obesity Day. Let's talk about obesity and health. Obesity is a complex chronic disease in which an individual’s weight is higher than what is considered healthy for his or her height. There is often a correlation between obesity and other health conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease.

This world obesity day we need to change the narrative surrounding obesity, ensure that support is given to those who need it the most and all work together to tackle this growing epidemic.

Everyone deserves to be happy.

It's okay to encourage persons to lose weight and improve their lives.

It's not okay to tell persons that they shouldn't participate in social events that bring them joy because of their size.

People deserve to be happy irregardless of how much they weigh.

Are you losing the weight you promised yourself to lose at the beginning of the year? If you haven't lost the weight yet or your weightloss seems to be stalled. Here are a few reasons why:

1) Your portion sizes are too large- if your portion sizes of food are larger than a regular serving size, you're more likely to consume more calories than you need. These excess calories will eventually get converted to fat.

2) You're drinking too much juice - a sip of juice here and there throughout the day will eventually add to your overall caloric intake. If your weightloss journey has stalled, be mindful of the amount of juice you are drinking throughout the day and reduce your intake.

3) High calorie snacks - while snacks can form a part of your diet, snacks that are high in calories can defeat your weightloss goals.  When snacking, limit processed snacks as they tend to be higher in calories.

If you're having difficulty losing weight, I'm here to help you. DM me for a consultation.

Here are 3 healthy snacking options for the Holidays:

1) Nuts: these are a good source of healthy fats and protein which can help you to feel full and prevent overeating.

2) Roasted Channa (Chick pea) - channa is rich in soluble fiber which aids in lowering cholesterol. It is also a good source of the nutrient manganese needed for bone health.

3) Fresh Fruit - fresh fruits are also a good source of dietary fibre. Additionally, they contain numerous vitamins and minerals to help sustain your immune system.

Incorporating these healthy snacks into your diet can offer a delightful combination of taste and health benefits.

While our favourite snacks and desserts are a major part of the holiday season, many of them tend to be high in unhealthy fats and added sugar. Such snacks should be consumed in moderation.

Remember, moderation is key for a well-balanced approach to nutrition.
