Ramkaran Contracting – 20 Years of Faith, Grit & Building With Heart
Twenty years ago, on December 2nd, 2005, I didn’t set out to build a company. I set out to build a place where I could grow. I was just 21. No business plan. No polished mission statement. No strategy deck. Just a young woman who felt boxed in by the limitations of her environment and believed, stubbornly and wholeheartedly, that there had to be a better way. If the space I needed to grow didn’t exist, I would have to build it. That conviction, quiet, shaky, but determined, became the foundation of Ramkaran Contracting.
Where It Really Began: With a Break, not a Win
Our first project wasn’t a feel-good beginning. It was a storm. A supplier, who we later learned was also a competitor, pulled his steamroller off the site mid-project, leaving tonnes of hot mix on the ground and me fighting to save a job that was never supposed to be sabotaged. The client’s project team was inexperienced. The pressure was crushing. And then came something I had never been warned to expect, “squeezing to get a bribe.”
I didn’t give in. But I did break. At 23, standing in the heat of a collapsing project, I learned the truths that would shape my leadership forever:
• Integrity isn’t convenient. It is costly.
• Growth comes dressed as difficulty.
• Faith isn’t a slogan; it is survival.
Those early breaks became our backbone. They made us a company committed to ethics, grounded in faith, and unwilling to compromise on the right thing, even when no one is watching.
By God’s grace, we survived those early years, then we grew.
We grew by standing firm in quality.
We grew by showing up when others stepped back.
We grew by choosing integrity even when it slowed us down.
The pandemic shook us, stretched us, and slowed our momentum to a crawl, but it never stopped us. We emerged stronger, steadier, and more rooted in purpose.
And while our initial dream was to be recognized regionally, we were honored locally, twice, as:
Contractor of the Year – Small and Building Category (2023 & 2025).
These awards didn’t come from flashy marketing. They came from doing things the right way, even when no one applauded.
After deep reflection, prayer, and honest conversations, we realized our next chapter needed to be more than growth. It needed to be purpose.
Our New Construction Vision
“Helping build a world where everyone has access to affordable, sustainable homes.”
This is not a tagline. It is a response to the global housing crisis, a commitment to be part of the solution, not a bystander.
Our Renewed Facilities Maintenance Purpose
“To lead the region in smart, sustainable property care through innovative technology and our own premium line of eco-friendly consumables, tools, and equipment.
Because maintenance isn’t an afterthought, it is the silent work that keeps communities functioning with dignity.
To our clients, partners, team members, and the many people who stood with us, through storms, setbacks, and breakthroughs, thank you.
You didn’t just help build a company.
You helped build a community anchored in trust, faith, and heart.
As we step into our next 20 years, we carry:
• a clearer vision,
• a stronger faith,
• and a deeper commitment to the people and places we serve.
Our story is still being written, one home, one project, one act of integrity at a time.
Here’s to building with heart.
Here’s to the next 20 years, together.
