π Proud Naparima College Moment! π
We are thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking achievement of our very own Dr. Avinaash Vickram Maharaj, a distinguished alumnus and former staff member of Naparima College!
Dr. Maharaj, now a renowned Clinical Postdoctoral Researcher in Paediatric Endocrinology, has made a monumental discovery in the field of genetic science. His research has identified the QSOX2 gene 𧬠as the cause of a rare condition now named Maharaj-Storr Syndrome, a disorder affecting growth, immunity, and digestion.
Published in the prestigious Nature Communications, Dr. Maharajβs work explores how mutations in the QSOX2 gene disrupt vital cellular processes tied to growth regulation, metabolism, and immune health. This breakthrough holds immense promise for developing new therapies, offering hope to individuals with severe gastrointestinal and immune challenges.
His contributions to understanding the GH/IGF-1 axis, the glucocorticoid system, and mitochondrial health place him at the forefront of paediatric endocrine research.
We are immensely proud to witness a Naparima College graduate making a global impact in science and medicine.
Congratulations, Dr. Maharaj, on your remarkable journey and contribution to humanity!
