World No To***co Day is an annual global health awareness day observed on May 31st. It is organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about the health risks associated with to***co use and advocate for effective policies to reduce to***co consumption.

The primary goal of World No To***co Day is to highlight the negative impact of to***co use on public health and promote efforts to discourage to***co use in all its forms. To***co use is a major risk factor for various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, and cancer. It is estimated to cause more than 8 million deaths each year globally.

The main problem or risk you take when using toothpicks is that a piece of wood can break off and get lodged in your gum tissue. When a toothpick is used in the same spot frequently, it can create space in between your teeth. This leads to more food getting stuck and even cavities.

Heavy use of toothpicks can shift your gum down to expose more of your tooth’s root. This makes it much more likely to be damaged.

Toothpick users also tend to chew on the wood itself which can wear down enamel.

Today our lovely patient presented for a consultation and to get a cleaning done. Her major concern was the appearance of her broken down baby tooth, which was affecting her confidence when she smiled. After a thorough examination, a treatment plan was formulated and discussed. We decided that the best option for her is to get a dental implant, but for now we decided to build up the tooth with composite for a temporary fix. The filling was done first because sometimes cleanings can cause bleeding of the gums. We made sure to clean the baby tooth before applying the composite. Building relationships with our patients is key to providing solutions for whatever issues they may face.
