🌿 BIG NEWS IN WOMEN'S HEALTH 🌿
PCOS has officially been renamed PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.
Published today in The Lancet (12 May 2026), this landmark change follows more than a decade of global consensus work led by 56 academic, clinical, and patient organisations, with input from over 14,000 women living with the condition.
Why the change?
The old name focused on ovarian cysts — but the condition was never just about cysts. PMOS is a complex hormonal and metabolic condition that can affect:
🌱 Hormones
🌱 Periods & ovulation
🌱 Weight & metabolism
🌱 Insulin resistance
🌱 Fertility & pregnancy (including miscarriage risk)
🌱 Pregnancy complications (gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia)
🌱 Mental wellbeing
What this means for you:
If you've been diagnosed with PCOS — or suspect you may have it — the condition is the same. Only the name, and our understanding of its full impact, has evolved. Better recognition. Deeper understanding. More accurate care.
At Sanjivani Women's Hospital, we're committed to evidence-based, personalised care at every step of your journey.
