Not time-outs. Not taking everything away. Not yelling or threatening.
Punishment might stop the behavior in the moment but it doesn’t teach skills.

It doesn’t build trust.
It doesn’t get to the why behind the behavior.

What works better?
✅ Connection
✅ Clear boundaries
✅ Teaching and reinforcing what you do want to see

You’re human.

But here’s what actually helps:
1️⃣ Acknowledge the feeling: “I’m upset”
2️⃣ Hold the boundary: “It’s okay to be mad, but you need to wait.”
3️⃣ Teach a coping skill: “When you feel this way, you can stomp your feet or squeeze your ball.”

You don’t have to yell or give in to be effective.
You just need tools and support.

Before you enroll them, check this list: 👇🏽

✅ Can they follow 1–2 step instructions?

✅ Can they stay seated for short periods?

✅ Are they able to transition between tasks?

✅ Can they tolerate group settings or new people?

✅ Are they able to communicate wants/needs (with words, signs, or visuals)?

✅ Can they manage simple self-help tasks (like eating or asking for the bathroom)?

✅ Do they have support with emotional regulation or meltdowns?

If you said “no” to a few — that’s okay. It just means your child needs more support before entering a traditional classroom.
