This international children's day...

Let's try to give our little ones some useful skills:

"Parents can practice phone numbers as a little song or rhyme.

Reading clocks can become a daily guessing game.

Counting coins while unloading groceries can turn into a mini challenge.

Tying shoes can be practiced for a few minutes before leaving the house.

Writing letters to grandparents, labeling drawings, or even copying short messages can build comfort with script.

Asking children to complete two-step or three-step directions can strengthen their working memory and confidence.

None of these activities require extra money or special materials.

What they need MOST is repetition, patience, and a supportive adult by their side"

"If y'all can help us out, we need to go back to basics."

World Pneumonia Day is celebrated on November 12th every year

What is 'Pneumonia'?

It's a serious lung infection diagnosed through a medical assessment by your Doctor who will then prescribe treatment to help you recover faster and prevent complications.

While Bacteria are often the cause some Pnemonia infections are caused by VIRUSES which means antibiotics WILL NOT work. Usually, your Doctor should be able to tell the difference

Who is at increased risk of severe complications like hospitalisation or death?

Children who are age 2 and under and adults age 65 and older

Those exposed to certain chemicals or environmental pollutants like smoke, dust and mould

Those with lifestyle issues, such as smoking, heavy alcohol use or poor nutrition

Those with a lung problem like Asthma or COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Those with a weakened immune system

Those who have trouble coughing or swallowing, from a stroke or other condition

Those who have been recently sick with a cold or the flu

Those with other chronic health diseases like diabetes, heart failure, sickle cell disease, liver disease and kidney disease.

What can you do to prevent Pneumonia?

If in a high risk group, getting vaccinated can help PREVENT pneumonia caused by pneumococcal bacteria or the flu virus.

Following good respiratory and hand hygiene, not smoking, and having a healthy lifestyle can also help prevent pneumonia

Fantastic news for the country as this sudden shortfall of CO2 gas would have caused much turmoil domestically

Kudos for those who stepped up so quickly to keep that from happening

We can only hope that good sense and further cooperation takes place as quickly to secure the livelihoods of those employed at Nutrien

Recent statements about acetaminophen (panadol, tylenol, cetamol, febrex etc) have caused much unwarranted distress

Most medical organisations around the world have already responded that it remains safe

If you are pregnant you should be under care of a medical practitioner anyhow

This medical practitioner will assess you if you have a fever and determine the appropriate treatment based on the cause of that fever

That may include acetaminophen...

It may include something else

Get assessed

But acetaminophen SHOULD always be recommended for the shortest possible duration and dose in pregnant patients anyhow

To those still worried... Maybe take a read of this from an official US Government Site about fever itself:

The National Library of Medicine factsheets on FEVER in pregnancy states:

"Does having a FEVER increase the chance of birth defects?"

: "Several studies have reported a small chance for birth defects called neural tube defects (NTDs) in babies of people WHO HAD FEVERS before the 6th week of pregnancy

A few studies have reported a small increased chance for other birth defects when FEVER occurs in early pregnancy (before week 12), ESPECIALLY IF THE FEVER IS UNTREATED! These include heart defects, abdominal wall defects or cleft lip and/or cleft palate"

"Does having a FEVER in pregnancy affect future behavior or learning for the child?"

: "A few studies have reported a small increased chance for problems such as attention deficit disorder (ADHD) and autism when a person had a FEVER in pregnancy, ESPECIALLY IF THE FEVER WAS UNTREATED"

LEAVING FEVER UNTREATED IS DANGEROUS!

Get assessed and get treated!
