👣Cracked Heels medically known as Heel Fissures, often occur when the skin on the bottom outer edge of the heel becomes hard, dry and flaky and if left untreated can cause deep cracks/fissures to occur which can be painful or bleed and also become infected.
The symptoms are usually worse when the skin around the heel becomes thick/calloused. Heel Fissures affect anyone and some factors may include conditions such as:
Diabetes which tends to dry the skin, walking barefoot regularly and wearing open backed shoes on a regular basis, as they provide no support to hold the foot pad under the feet.
Excessive weight/obesity, dry climate, dermatitis, psoriasis can also contribute to cracked heels.
