🙌Agenda: Best Atrial Fibrillation Management: Concomitant Atrial Fibrillation Ablation and Left Atrial Appendage Closure-The CMUH Experience

🙌Abstract:
Concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation and left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) represent a promising integrated approach for patients with symptomatic AF and elevated stroke risk who are either unsuitable for long-term anticoagulation or seeking comprehensive rhythm and thromboembolic protection. This presentation will review the rationale, clinical evidence, and procedural strategies supporting the combined use of catheter ablation and LAAC.

The left atrial appendage is both a common trigger site for atrial arrhythmias and the primary source of thrombi in non-valvular AF. Addressing both the electrical substrate and the anatomical source of embolic risk in a single procedure offers the potential to improve long-term rhythm control while minimizing stroke risk without lifelong anticoagulation.

Recent trials and registries, including the aMAZE, WATCH-AF, and AMULET IDE studies, have demonstrated the feasibility and safety of performing AF ablation and LAAC either simultaneously or in a staged approach. Outcomes from these studies suggest comparable efficacy in arrhythmia control, with favorable safety profiles and acceptable device success rates. However, patient selection, procedural timing, and device choice remain critical considerations.

This talk will outline the procedural workflow, including mapping and ablation strategies, transseptal puncture techniques, and LAA closure device deployment. Special attention will be given to anticoagulation management pre- and post-procedure, as well as imaging protocols for ensuring optimal device placement and long-term closure success.
Attendees will gain insight into current guidelines, ongoing clinical trials, and evolving best practices. The goal is to provide electrophysiologists with practical, evidence-based strategies for implementing concomitant AF ablation and LAAC in appropriate patients, ultimately aiming to improve clinical outcomes through a tailored, multidisciplinary approach.

Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) is transforming the landscape of movement disorder treatment. As a non-invasive, incision-free therapy, it delivers precise thermal ablation to deep brain structures under real-time MRI guidance. 👍Agenda: Medical AI as a Foundational Driver of Precision Medicine

🙌Abstract: The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is rapidly transforming the landscape of precision medicine. By enabling the analysis of vast, multimodal datasets—including imaging, genomics, pathology, and clinical records—AI systems are driving a new era of personalized, precisive, and data-driven care. Among the most impactful applications is imaging AI, which leverages deep learning to detect subtle patterns on radiological scans, improve diagnostic accuracy, and assist in early disease detection and monitoring.

Imaging AI enables high-resolution phenotyping by identifying structural and functional biomarkers invisible to the human eye. When integrated with molecular and clinical data, it supports precision diagnosis and risk stratification. In practice, AI also enhances clinical workflows through automated segmentation, triage, and structured reporting, while supporting decision-making with consistent, reproducible insights. Coupled with federated learning frameworks, these tools can learn across institutions while protecting patient privacy.

Medical AI—especially in imaging—is no longer a supporting tool but a foundational technology for achieving precision medicine. As we move toward predictive, preventive, and participatory healthcare models, the fusion of imaging intelligence with clinical context positions AI not only as an enhancer of care, but as a cornerstone of tomorrow’s medical paradigm.

💥Agenda: Proton therapy in cancer treatment

💥Abstract: Cancer causes significant morbidity and mortality to many patients around the world, including in Malaysia and Taiwan. Radiotherapy, commonly delivered via photons, is one of the standard cancer treatment modalities. In contrast, proton therapy is an advanced form of radiotherapy that delivers a much lower dose to normal tissue surrounding the tumor compared to photon radiotherapy.

There are currently five proton centers in Taiwan, including the one at China Medical University Hospital in Taichung since 2024. With this advanced modality, we hope to help more cancer patients not only in Taiwan but also around the world, including in Malaysia.

🙌Agenda: The Trend and Future of Obesity Treatment

🙌Abstract: Obesity, a pervasive global health issue, significantly increases the risk of various diseases. Traditional treatments like lifestyle changes, medications have limited success, prompting the need for innovative approaches. Recent advancements in pharmacotherapy offer new anti-obesity drugs targeting appetite and energy balance after the success of Bariatric surgical interventions offering lots of new input in hormonal modulation of Gastrointestinal system.Genetic and microbiome research is also paving the way for precision medicine, tailoring interventions to individual profiles. Additionally, less invasive endoscopic bariatric therapies are emerging as effective alternatives to traditional surgery. Future obesity treatment will definitely involve a multidisciplinary approach, combining medical, behavioral, and technological interventions. In Malaysia, where obesity rates are rising, embracing these trends and innovations is crucial for effective management. This presentation will discuss current trends, future directions, and the impact of these advancements on obesity treatment.
